My variegated brugmansia came from the local farmers market, its in the same place as my other brugs so light is the same. It has only grown 18 inches in 2 years, i've never pruned it either. I have tried fertilizers, but it refuses to flower. And it grows at half the rate as my 4 yr old plant does, and its 7 1/2 feet tall now. Every garden center i've called has said variegated brugs ARE slower growers since they have less chlorophyl than the green varieties, I'm not sure whats wrong with it but i'm going to try to repot it in a larger pot since roots are coming out of the bottom. I potted 2 2 foot long cutting that I took of my regular brug when I pruned it back, and they have buds already. I'm about to just give up on my variegated one and just throw it out. I'll just stick with the larger green varieties.

slowly but surely I am tired of watering ...just watering. Just to be able to cut grass I came up with a way to let the water hose just water the flowerbeds. So the last 2 days I watered...ran back and forth between that and cutting the grass and weed eating. Must be the darn Menopaws that drains me so much this summer that after that...I am more pooped then all the poop out there that the snails leave behind on all the plants lol Daniella just you make sure you don't stay in that heat to long..WOW 105.8. I'm only answering because no one else has yet; I'm no expert on planting in-ground. All mine overwinter indoors in pots, in sunny areas and lightly watered. It won't hurt, especially if they're still dormant, to prune off any roots that are small and look dead or unhealthy. They'll grow those small feeder roots right back and most will benefit from the root-pruning. I would think if they were stored bare-rooted you could probably soak them for a few hours in rainwater (or at least tap water that's been sitting for several hours to gas off some of the chlorine and come up to room temperature) with a few drops of SuperThrive in it, and then plant them right away into amended garden soil in your garden, then drench with your leftover soaking water. (If you don't already have it, SuperThrive is a wonderful supplement for all your plants, and especially transplants.) Your other option is to "plunge": soak, then plant in a good-quality perlite-rich potting soil in a plastic pot and bury the pot up to the rim in it's garden spot. That way you have better control over the quality of the soil, keep some pests away from the root ball, keep the plant's roots at a stable ground temperature (clearly your plants were happy last year in the ground), and still be able to easily pull it up when you're ready to store. Those are just my best ideas based on how we transplant bare-rooted plants that have been shipped to us. Good luck! Jen

My bigest plant, a 7 feet , creamy white with yellew center, still dormant but waking up. A couple of gorgeous "Carmen" 5 feet planta awake, sending the first leaves. I don't know if It is a common variety but I really recommend it, the perfect helix shape and the scent are amazing. And here the cuttings of last june. All of them are from the Canary Island, a celadine type, a scott pratt type( very intense reed , spice scents like cinnamon...) , a yellow one and the two that are still dormant are a rainbow variety and one orange with quite large flowers.
