Hot peppers the wrong way: need advice

shantastic

Tragedy in pepperland. Two days ago I discovered my plants were crawling with aphids and spider mites, so I doused them in a dishsoap/veg oil/water mix using proportions given in another thread.

Turns out oiling plants in the hot sun has the same effect as oiling people, and they are now badly burnt. Most leaves have turned black and fallen off, and all blooms have shrivelled and died. However, all peppers are still attached and continuing to ripen.

Are the plants themselves dead, and the peppers ripening the same way they continue to ripen for a bit after being picked? Should I harvest all the peppers now or leave them on the plants?

Please help. I'd hate to lose everything at this stage.
