Wow, so many seed suppliers! I had not heard of half of these. The question asked specifically about on-line. We get seeds many other ways, including yuppy gardening stores, home depot, trading and seedings at farmer's markets. For online I have only purchased from 4 companies, and placed orders with two more. I have had very good luck with Victory seeds in Oregon. Very well packaged, lots of information provided about planting and care, seeds are healthy looking, generous amount, and so far good spouting rate. I order off season since my planting date is so early and the order arrived quickly, both times. I have also ordered herbs from Nichols in Oregon too. Not as impressed but they were good seeds and good experience. Good selection in herbs. I have had pretty bad luck with Horizon herbs due to their poor sprouting rate and poor costumer service. Bad luck too with tomatogrowers in ft myers FL. Poor sprouting rate, and the tomatoes that sprouted were not healthy or productive, even from varieties we had grown before. Other folks like them and maybe it is due to different weather. Or maybe they had a bad year last year? I placed orders with Fedco and the Chile pepper institute but they have not arrived. The Fedco order does not win any points for quick delivery, but I suppose everybody is ordering seeds now.

Hi garyfla. Wow, this is an old post, good to see you! I ordered from dragonflyaquatics dot com back then and have continued every year since (well, with the exception of last yr when I broke my leg and couldn't get out to piddle in my puddle). In fact, just yesterday I was pondering this years order. I need to get on that.. I've had an excellent experience with them and their customer service is nonpareil. Some time back, I realized a few hours after I placed my order online I'd left an item off and called to add it. My order had already shipped (!) but they shipped my addition out the next day and even tossed in some plant weights 'for my trouble' when it was totally my issue, not theirs. I give them a strong recommend. Hope this helps.

I'm tardy to the party, but I wanted to make an input for anyone else to see this: Re: Dean Cook/Flytraps- A good 85% of my current collection is from Dean Cook, and I've NEVER had a problem with him. Patience is required, because he does have a day job, and on the website, it does state that it can take 7-10 days to process an order. I've had some difficulties with communication, but again, patience is required. They do get back to me eventually. Yes, sometimes the plants received aren't the best, but I do believe the season has alot to do with it. Since figuring out what I'm doing, I'm yet to lose anything he's sent me, and they've all grown nicely! I did lose one plant from them during shipping, and they sent me a replacement with the next order I placed. I wouldn't say they're out of the game yet, nor "gone bad". 4/5 Re: Lois Ochs/Raccoon Ridge-I found her on eBay, and purchased a Dana's Delight, Hummer Hammerhead, and 15 (received 18) lost-tag Sarracenia. The Danas, Hummer, and 16 of the rhizomes were all rotten! Talk about spotty communication, and when I finally heard back, they refused to reimburse me or send replacements because "plants are perishable". When they're received in such shoddy condition, I think the sellers should be responsible. It seems the only people that've received good things from her were physically at her nursery. I purchased a seed package from a local nursery here in Utah. It said on the package that the seeds were chimayo. The seed packs come from the Sandia seed company (http://www.sandiaseed.com/hotvery.html), with a "peppers of the world" label on it. Can anyone tell me if the seed source is the same genetically as the chimayo? (I understand that they have to be from the Chimayo area to be true chimayos, but I would not mind growing plants from these peppers in my area and call them something else.) I grew 4 of these plants last year. The plants I grew from those seeds produced peppers that look identical to photos of the peppers on the Native Hispanic Institute down to the indented crown and curved bottoms. They grew peppers that had thin skin but excellent flavor. I dried them and rehydrated them for sauces. Most of my peppers were 5 inches and smaller. The plants were less ridged than other pepper plants I have grown with branches that drooped down to the ground without support. They were fairly productive though.
