There will be a few surprises for the silent auction. I have audited the cuttings I hoped would be more developed. These are rooted but the top growth is just beginning to develop. A limited number of Annie Laurie McDowell - Thornless, very fragrant, continuous flowering in the Los Angeles area. Quite healthy and possesses a good amount of shade tolerance. A vigorous climber once established. Silver Moon - the classic Large Flowered Climber from the early Twentieth Century. Buttery yellow buds open to semi double, silvery white fragrant blooms. One long spring flowering, though it can give scattered repeat in milder climates and it did repeat in Newhall, CA after attaining a large size. Pink Clouds - Climbing miniature created by Ralph Moore. It can be used as a hedge, specimen and is the root stock used by Sequoia Nursery to create their many miniature tree roses as well as their weeping standards. It's also the rootstock Kathy Strong stated here on Garden Web creates some of the nicest rose plants in her vast garden. R. Banksia lutescens - The single, yellow Banksia. Identical to the double yellow, only with five petal yellow flowers. Kim

Species is frequent in local retail outlets and not entirely rare in local plantings. At the moment I am seeing mostly the single-flowered 'Nana' being offered. Larger, older specimens around were hammered by 1990 winter, however last time I was at the Halda Klager Lilac Garden, Woodland, WA I saw an orange-and-white flowered cultivar blooming south of the house. It looked like it may have frozen down and then come back from the crown. I think at least one of the plants south of the main greenhouse at the Washington Park Arboretum, Seattle also came back and got back up to head height or more. Prior to 1990 there was 2 or 3 of them in the bed and I remember these as being seen in fruit. Perhaps the biggest one I've seen here was in a south-facing front yard near the University District but I think it went down in 1990, and then perhaps was killed by the occupants of the site when it tried to grow back - I may have seen new stems coming up at one point but nothing later (all viewing of the site over the years has been from a moving car on a steep hill). So the upshot is that these can be and have been grown here if they get a hot spot and a 30 year winter doesn't come along.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood your earlier post. This one may not directly connect with your posts either, but it is information that bears directly on registered names. There are two different things often referred to as "registered". They are quite different and can lead to confusion if not carefully defined. The registration to which I was referring was registering a rose with the International Cultivar Registration Authority - Rosa, which is the American Rose Society. This registration puts the rose in the historical record for roses internationally. It also makes sure no other rose can be registered using the same name. However, it has no control over sales names. Roses are often registered using their code name, or varietal denomination, and their sales names are just listed as synonyms. Thus Veterans' Honor (aka City of Newcastle Bicentennary, Five Roses Rose, and Lady in Red) is registered as Jacopper. The second registration is acquiring a registered trademark for the name. This is the source of the î symbol following names. This comes from the government and supposedly insures that no one else can sell a different rose using the registered trademark name. However, it does not keep the company that trademarked the name from using it for more than one rose. Poulsen, Kordes and others spend a fair amount of time and money registering names with the European trademark authority, and they feel they need to use them often to get the benefit from it. Thus they both do sell more than one rose using the same trademarked name at the same time. I am not aware of any cases where they used more than one trademarked name for the same rose, although I suppose it is possible. Adding confusion to the situation, some companies also trademark the collection names. Thus you could have a rose with a trademarked name being sold in a collection that also has a trademarked name. They could sell the same rose with the trademarked name in more than one collection with a trademarked collection name, or they could sell two roses using the same trademarked name - one in each collection. But no one else can use any of these trademarked names. Finally, the rules say if you register a rose with the ICRA-R, you cannot trademark that registered name. Or if you trademark a name with the government, you cannot use that name to register the rose with the ICRA-R. Life would certainly be easier for all of us if each hybridizer would only use each name once, and no one would try to use a name someone else already used. However, that isn't the world we live in.
