What to plant in 12 inch space along driveway?

I am writing to ask for your opinion. We are building a new house in a flag lot off of a cul-de-sac in Salt Lake City, UT. That means we have a long (50Â) driveway off the cul-de-sac before you actually get to our house. After they pour the concrete tomorrow, there will be 12" on each side of the driveway that we are having our landscaper put sprinklers in. We are choosing/planting our own plants. My question is: what can we plant in just 12 inches of space? The space will be bordered by vinyl fencing on the back and the concrete driveway on the front. Do you think we should do flowers along the whole 50Â length? Bushes? I doubt there are any trees that can handle that little space, but maybe? What would you do? Thanks for your help. OhÂthe driveway runs north and south (in case that helps with sun issues). I have never owned a home before, so all of this garneding stuff is brand new to me. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
