Green Chilli Variety in Cans?

Hello Pepper Forum,

My family and I moved from Houston to Perth about 9 months ago. There are a few flavors from the States I miss, and I've got to ask: what sort of pepper do you think are used for those little cans of Old El Paso Brand canned green chillis?

The only suggestions I can find on line are Poblano peppers, but to me, Poblanos have always had a smidge more heat and are soooo dark green that I can't believe that's what goes into the cans, unless peppers lose heat and color when canned????? (Comments on canning peppers welcomed as well!)

Hubby likes a bit of heat, but the kids and I are wimps and prefer the green chilli flavor without the heat and even the TAM Mild jalapenos. I might see if I can get some chili enthusiasts here to go to the trouble of seed import: Western Australia is very strict in that regard, so please don't send me any contraband! (Daturas are illegal here too...)

Hope you don't mind commenting on these little to no heat questions!

Bobbi
