Anaheim Pepper?

Is this an Anaheim pepper? I bought a "Bell Pepper" plant from Lowe's this spring and these are the peppers it is producing. Its obviously not a "bell pepper" although it tastes similar.

Yup, Anaheim pepper. I'm lucky mine from lowes were true to the tag

Yep. Anaheim. I find Anaheims have much better flavor than green bells. Not a hard thing to do with my palate since I hate green bells.

Hint: Whenever shopping for seedlings, don't grab the plants in front -- try to find a good one(s) towards the back. Less chance of some shopper switching labels.

rosiew I know that I've seen plenty of jalapenos and some anaheim, both at the Home Depot at hamilton mill. Although , it has been a while since I was snooping aroudn the veggie seedlings. I also remember seeing poblano at home depot over the years,have you checked there or lowes yet? options may be dwindling as the season moves along

They will lose some of their heat as they age but by then they may have lost texture as well, so if the kids love them "as is" that's great. Peppers do differ season-to-season depending upon growing conditions, so the next case you buy may be milder or even hotter. All you can do is taste and perhaps mix pepper varieties if you want varying degrees of heat in the jar. A pepper jelly will never be as hot because the sugar "tones down" a lot of the hotness. Carol

Roast them, peel, chop and freeze for "green chilies". I freeze in the snack size ziplocs, then put those in a larger bag. Use in any recipe calling for green chilies. You can also make green salsa with some green tomatoes and the peppers. They're good cut into rings and pickled. Awesome addition to sandwiches. Deanna (who needs to go harvest mine and the jalapenos too!)

Enjoy them, Sue Ellen. They are one of my favorite Mexican foods. One tip I can give you is that charred, peeled chiles are extremely fragile and will tear and get holes no matter how carefully you handle them. But don't worry. Just have faith and keep going. Do the best you can. If you are coating them with fluffy beaten egg, the coating will hold everything together when it cooks and they will come out fine. Jim

No fooling! I just want to slap some people. We have signs on our shelves stating what each pepper is, people still pull out the stakes and read them then put them in the wrong pot. just maddening.

I've enjoyed these Anaheim peppers none the less. :)

But I do want to grow some bell peppers next year. We use them a lot in our Cajun cooking. Just about every recipe starts with a roux and then the creole trinity; onions, bell peppers, and celery.

Perhaps I will try growing them from seed next year, if I can find some good recommendations on a variety.

I would like to do Anaheims as well. Perhaps the New Mexico "Big Jim." Those sound good.

It is mostly the case of tag switching by customers, kids. It is unintentional carelessness.
People should have some considerations. What if this happens to them?

If the pepper seems flat, it is probably an Anaheim. If not, it may be a Giant Marconi (Italian) pepper. I grow both. The Marconi has no heat and the Anaheim is a very mild hot pepper.

I have also CARMEN with similar size/shape fruits. It is a very SLOW producer. (Maybe it is my growing condition is responsible. )
