Desperately Seeking Orange mini

I have been scouring the books and the web. I've found plenty of orange minis that look like a true orange or burnt orange but when I investigate them further on sites like HMF the colors never show true. This problem extends to books and other web sites as well.

So I'm looking to you as fellow mini growers to share your orange experiences.

I grow a few orange blends that I like, cooler months they are darker than very warm months. Read warm to be 90-100+.

These two are Hybrid Bracteatas not minis, 2 to 3'Tall or so, depending on where you live.

Thank you for these suggestions. Sadly, Two Sisters still does not have PowerPoint and I must have missed the window with Almost Heaven Roses because PP is no longer listed. Grrr... To avoid further delay in filling my rosebed gap, I'll have to consider another red upright miniflora/miniature rose. Perhaps Memphis Magic offered by Almost Heaven. Thanks again :-)

LL, I didn't see your question until now, sorry. I wasn't going to draw up a plan that recesses the fridge into the pantry closet because it sounds like that set-up limits the size of fridge Flying can get - 30" most likely, possibly 33" - unless she makes modifications to the bathroom, swapping out the tub for a shower as suggested by lascatx above. Personally, I'd be reluctant to limit fridge size. My SIL had a heckuva time finding a new fridge to fit their existing cabinet - height and width were what was common when they built, not what is common now. We had to modify our cabinet by jacking it up 2" with plywood inserts at the base - ugly but short-term - to fit our new, taller fridge. Thank goodness we weren't hindered by soffits like my SIL. That said, there does seem to be more choices for smaller fridges that there were even a couple years ago so perhaps this isn't a big deal after all. But it's still not the norm, which means fridges will often cost more. But if that's not a concern for Flying, then yes, changes can be made to the plan I posted Tue, Aug 23, 11 at 20:39 so that the sink can be placed on the entry wall. The door would need to stay put or shift over only 6" so that there's room to have the DW next to the sink. It would be 12" of wall, 40" door, DW, 33" or 36" sink cab (smaller sink cab leaves a few more inches between counter run and doorway), spacer cabinet, corner, then 38" to range. This would leave a long stretch of peninsula counter between DR and kitchen. The 2nd oven would need to go under the counter here. The bathroom wall set-up would need to change a bit, too. because the entry shifts over only 6", not 12". Staggering the cabinet depth would work: 12" deep cabs close to the doorway, 18" deep cabs next to the fridge. If Flying has the funds and the desire to do the extra remodeling required to recess a 36" fridge in the pantry closet, the above still works, too. But if the only reason for all this extra work is to get a view to the backyard, it might not be necessary. Flying's back door has a window in its top half. If that's not enough, she can add a window along that back wall ala the photo I posted Fri, Aug 12, 11 at 14:02. It would mean giving up a little bit of upper cabinet room (about 12" I think).

I'm the party pooper, I guess. I suggest you do not pick the tile for the back splash until the cabinets and counters are in. You will not believe the difference it makes. When the counter is horizontal and bigger, it will look much more different than that little sample. The lighting in your space is different than out in the tile shops. Also the cabinets when installed will give your space a different look. There is nothing lost by waiting. There have been several GW members who made their decision based on a door and granite sample only to be disappointed later. In our future house, I plan on just painting that drywall area and then deciding. I know I probably will want to go with the arabesques again, but I really want to see it before making that decision. But, while you are out there looking, check out the Mandala Tiles, especially their Sinu collection. The tile is subtle but really does have some depth to it without stealing the show. I know srg215 used it in her kitchen in the color: Stingray. Gorgeous. Good Luck!

if you could splurge for a mini climber, why dont you try warm welcome? it is a true orange with single petals, strong fragrance and produces hips in the fall. very robust and nearly the perfect rose in my opinion.

Hey folks

Thanks for the sggestions! Unfortunately I can not use 'warm welcome" as it is a climber.. "work of art' is said to be a climber as well and I live in a condo and while i can go out left and right, i can't go up.
Trosbero, it seems that 'Work of art' is a climber and Orange Honey, too yellow

I guess it depends what you call "orange". In my garden, 'Orange Honey' is orange, not yellow. Perhaps 'Orange Parfait' is more what you're looking for.

I grow Denver's Dream which is a fantastic orange mini that everyone who loves the colour orange should grow! It is a bloom machine with wonderful resistance to BS. Here is a link...

That's great to know Countryrose as Denver's Dream is what i've been thinking of going with. Have you heard of Top Marks? That's another orange i've been thinking about

I've only seen Top Marks once, but it stopped me in my tracks and I quickly took a photo of it. The plant was not very tall, but it was just covered in bright orange blooms.

It sounds like you can't go wrong with either choice. In fact, why not get one of each? There's always room for another miniature.

Dale, Top Marks is gorgeous but only grows about a foot in my garden whereas Denver's Dream is nearly 3 feet. Warm Welcome and Work of Art of both climbers but if grown up a tripod, they would do well for you as the canes are very flexible and easily trained. Best of luck with your final selection!

I will have to second Denver's Dream for an orange mini. My bush grows to about 3' tall every year and is a true bloom machine. It also is very healthy and seems to be winter hardy as well. It had four very large and healthy canes left after I Spring pruned everything this past week. The orange color doesn't fade badly like many orange and yellows tend to do.
I would recommend this Denver's Dream rose to anyone looking for a good orange mini.

This year I'm trying Hope and Joy from Nor'East Roses. Its petals are red-orange with white trim.

The Hope and Joy photo at Nor'East isn't quite correct: the true color is more of a raspberry red with a white reverse. Just FYI. Its a very good rose, by the way.
