Now. Now. I only post pictures as a free educational service. There is no intention to enable. There is no hidden message which says "you must have this rose" or "you must have all of them". That would be shameless! However, if you really think of it, there are many reasons to buy all four. There most likely would be a discount and it takes about the same time to dig 4 holes as it does 3. You could give one to each family member and it would count as Christmas shopping. Really, buy all four.

As Crystal says Arroya sweetwood, myrospernum sousanum is not considered a messy tree. Yes, it drops it's leaves in the fall and flower petals in the spring, but those episodes are brief. Nor does it drop sticks or small branches like some trees. What might be of concern is that if it is planted near a flower bed the seeds germinate easily and have to be pulled. Also of concern is that it doesn't grow straight up like an 'ordinary' tree which is the subject of this thread. Looking at the very first picture at the top of the page you see the form it often takes. If you wanted a more upright tree you could prune the limbs on the left of the photo and stake the more upright trunk for a while. The seeds from my trees this year are about half their usual size due to our extreme drought. I haven't tried to germinate them so don't know if they are viable. The usual rainfall in San Antonio is over 30 inches a year. This year we've officially had 8 inches. My neighborhood is in a rain shadow and has received even less. Many non native trees are dying, but even a few native trees like red oaks are succumbing to the extremely dry ground. However, the A. sweetwood trees are very drought tolerant and are doing well . Crystal, so sorry you lost your phone. Hoping you are able to find it or replace it soon.

Bolero is nice and compact, even in this 12 month growing climate. It just blooms and blooms with Austin-like roses that hold up better than Austins in the vase and on the bush. The only DA I have that stays mannerly is Darcey Bussell. Even she gets bigger than advertised here, but she’s very easy to control, unlike the rest of my DA’s. I put Darcey in a fairly small bed, and I plant a lot of annual seeds around her. Any time she’s blocking the light, or I need the space, I hack her back. She responds by sending out new canes loaded with blooms. She’s always blooming and rarely takes a break. Although her blooms don’t hold up cut nearly as long as Bolero, Darcey’s blooms do hold up better than most of my Austins. She does not have those long crazy octopus arms that many DA’s do. Lisa
