Let's see--they came from different nurseries. Munstead Wood and Scepter'd Isle were bareroots from David Austin. Berlina, Pomponella Fairy Tale, and Little Sunset were bareroot from Palatine. Wedgewood Rose was bareroot from Regan Nursery--at least I ordered it originally from there, but I'm kinda remembering I had to change that--so I might have ended up ordering it from DA or some other place. But something is wrong with that list--I have a distinct memory of planting a couple potted ones also--from Chamblees. Hmmm--I also ordered several replacement roses (the drought last summer got a couple of them), so maybe it was the replacement ones that were own root potted--they aren't shown in the pics here. Yes, all roses I received this year were good-sized and very healthy. And since we had a mild winter, there were no late thaw-freeze-thaw-freeze cycles to endure--that always sets roses back on their heels. And then we had lots of spring rain which the roses have loved. In fact, this may be the best blooming year ever for all of them. Kate

I think I've been able to plant near the trees as the trees are to the north of the roses.... so the sun puts the tree shadows away from the roses. Still, though, the shade does get near the roses, can't plant any closer to the trees. Thank you for the kind words about the foliage. The roses do look their best in June.... I like to get some full bush shots at their peak blooming.

I agree with most of things written about Scepter'd Isle (above), so I'll just show you a picture of her when she is "looser." Scepter'd Isle I grew Mayflower for a number of years. It was a dependable bloomer (always the first of the season) and rebloomer, and it has one decided advantage over Scepter'd Isle--Mayflower has excellent bs resistance, whereas Scepter'd Isle is periodically susceptible to BS (but not a disease magnet). My problem with Mayflower is that while the bloom is pretty, it awakens no song in my heart--whereas the blooms of Scepter'd Isle do. Mayflower I don't remember problems with thorns on either of them. I've never grown the third rose you mention. Kate

I am not in the geographic are you mentioned, but spoke directly with D.A. in England regarding Noble Anthony ( it was among a group of roses in one of the catalog images. I was re-directed to D.A. England for identification). It was not recommended for America's warm climates ... . Hopefully someone growing it will chime in with personal experience.
