Blooming for the first time ever! what to do next

Hi all. My plumeria cutting from Kauai is finally about to bloom after almost 2 years!

I was wondering, when it blooms is it okay to cut off the flower? Also, when is a good time to do so?

You waited and now you have your just reward !! Awesome!!

Do you mean to pick the flower after it opens fully to enjoy in the house? To place in a cute little vase with water? If so.. Wait until its fully open. Then just bend where the bloom meets the stem. You will see once you try the first time.

If you are talking about the whole inflo... I would wait until all have bloomed and let it fall off naturally. You might have seed pods that may form, so I never take the whole inflo off..

To enjoy the open blooms.. Use your fingers and bend at the bottom of the bloom stem. You will see.

Inflo...after I used my finger to gently take the bloom off the stem..

Next pic is the underside of the bloom so you can see where it separates..

Thank you to all for your input. A sad day here to be sure. Once I dead head Barbara Streisand this evening, I will have 10 rose bushes and not a bloom to be seen. They are coming, and I am grateful for the beautiful first flush of the season and for the lush growth of each of the rose bushes. Even the bare roots, which are in the ground just 13 days are looking remarkable. Tomorrow is day 14 since the day I nearly murdered them by not following the directions for the planting of bare root roses. You name the rule, I didn't follow it. Perhaps I'll take a picture. They are really taking off since the post at day 9 or 10. Found a lovely little perennial today, Sweet Lullabye. Only gets 6 inches tall and has lavender spikey flowers. I put that front and center of the bare roots. I just needed something there as they are in a bed separate from the other 8 roses (3 in there 2nd year and 5 in their first). Scott in PA

Very cool! It's such a feeling of accomplishment when you get some seedlings in the ground. I've planted out a few things as well ... dianthus, snapdragons, english daisies, bachelor buttons, and a few others. I'm waiting on the more tender annuals. I brought in my tomatoes and zinnias last night, and will probably keep in them in tonight as well. Everything else I'm hoping will tough it out. I really enjoy this forum as well. Everyone is so nice, helpful, and knowledgable and don't make people feel stupid for asking questions. I don't think there's a nicer garden forum out there, and I've learned so much.

What year do you plan to have your wedding? The reason I ask, peonies and roses take some time to establish to bloom--sometimes several years, and would be considered a permanent planting. I would also caution you, that what bloomed in April one year, might bloom in June the next. Hopefully, someone who has personal knowledge of the Morristown area will be able to help you. Perhaps contact your local garden nurseries, garden clubs, or local master gardeners (try your local County extension for master garderner information). Congratulations and good luck to you!
