Stem/Root Rot

The plumeria that my son decided to uproot was still looking icky so I poked the stem to see if any latex flowed and it didn't. I removed the plant from it's pot and found that the roots were rotted as was the stem in the center almost the entire length. The plant had been a perfectly nice 2 tip cutting that was about 20 inches with 10 or so mature leaves. I managed to salvage the top 5 inches and will see if it roots. I can believe how quickly it rotted and how far up the rot went. It had been pulled out of it's pot a little less than two weeks ago. I've got to find a way to keep my youngest away from my plants!
