Bagged black earth...a scam ?
Comments (40)Late to this thread but "black earth" is basically a translation of the Russian chernozem, which is the classification and word used by Canadian and US soil classification systems. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernozem It is traditionally / historically used - formally - for soil formed in prairie (steppe) grass areas through accumulation / decomposition of grasses. In Europe, much of Ukraine, in north america, large swaths of the prairies. Lots of humus, high in organic content (relatively), but it's not supposed to be just organic content. Considered great growing soil. So just stuff from the bottom of a peat bog may be similar in some respects, that's not what it's supposed to be. I recall reading that Ukraine and Russia have laws against selling true chernozem, but there's a black market and lots of other stuff just sold as chernozem. In Russian too 'chernozem' is almost just a synonym for 'good dark soil.' But: I don't think there's any consumer protection laws in north america against selling anything at all as 'black earth.' So it may not mean much more than dark-coloured earth or well-rotted compost; sounds nice, but buyer beware, just like with the word topsoil. I'd guess that outside areas with true chernozem buying the real stuff would be just about impossible (no way it would be economic to ship it)....See MoreCitrus Scam on E-Bay
Comments (18)Morning, Eahamel, mind if I ask where you're located? These days I suffer memory loss. lol. You probably mentioned location a million times. Are your citrus in containers or in-ground? Heck, wish my potted citrus grew like you describe yours. :) I think most plants need breathing room, although many authors say grouped plants retain humidity. But, plants kept too close lack air circulation. Something, plants, 'especially indoors,' require. How large do Rio fruit get? Ex..size of Navel orange or Grapefruit. My citrus are grown for decoration, and love of growing.. However, I have eaten lemon, calamondin and kumquats. As for 25' trees, I'm sure fruit isn't wasted. Birds get to nibble, too. :) So true..grafted trees fruit much faster than bushes. I think the only ungrafted citrus in my collection is a Calamondin.. Eahamel, citrus are not hardy in IL. One year 'out of desperation,' lol, I bought Poncirus/FD, then planted in- ground. It survived our freezing winters, think 3-yrs, but so slow-growing. One year, during winter, some Bozo walked across the garden, 'FD was dormant,' instead of the walkway. In the process my FD broke at the base. I was SO upset. It never grew back. HA! weather people. Plan opposite predictions. lol. According to forecasters, we're supposed to get rain all of next week. We'll see..we sure need rain, too. I should have checked to see if you started a new thread before posting here. We'll all do the rain dance..:) Toni PS. I have sown store-bought citrus seeds.. lemon. It grew so, very fast, but thorns were longer and more prickly than cactus. One pro...foliage had super-strong lemony scent. More pronounced than nursery bought, established fruit....See MoreBeware of mail order scam - House of Wesley

Comments (8)Those rooms are really lovely. I do realize that this is a photo of a bathroom, but it shows the combination of white on the lower portion of the wall with Benjamin Moore's Wythe Blue above. If you're looking for an aqua tone the Wythe could be a candidate. Here is a link that might be useful: [Wythe Blue[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/rosedale-spa-like-master-bathroom-traditional-bathroom-austin-phvw-vp~245285)...See Moremaple_grove_gw
