Studies also showed an interesting correlation between good drainage and lesser concentrations of juglone in the soil. There are even microorganisms that nullify or breakdown juglone and soil components that interfere with the toxicity. Every situation is different, so there's no concrete answer to be had. There will always be someone with the 'special' tree, shrub, location, etc, where something does well and it shouldn't; usually there's an attribute that will explain it. The walnut that has such a great stand of vegetation beneath it that I've observed has a heck of a terrific situation for drainage. Heavy organic matter added to the soil probably helps there as well.

Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to advise me where I can get a substantial amount of seed for a reasonable price. I am not even sure how much I need. I have a 25 X 14 area covered with flagstones. Around all the flagstones is just dirt. It is very ugly and I thought I could make it prettier by planting some groundcover in between the stones. I am debating trying to plant corsican mint or maybe even elfin thyme in between flagstones in this backyard patio area. I searched online and strangely enough had a hard time finding seeds for sale. I found one place that sold large amounts of the seed but they said they were sold out for 09... go figure! Also I am curious on people's opinions on using this for a groundcover in between flagstones. I will be using it behind my house which gets indirect sunlight. Some areas are a little shady. Should I put good quality top soil down in between flagstones before planting? How long does it take to grow? I thought about buying the plants.. but the idea of having to cut them up to fit this size area.. and the cost of doing so doesn't seem worthwhile. Does corsican mint grow well from seed? Any other ones that I should consider? Thanks in advance!!!

Okay, First of all, what you have there is a Hoya carnosa 'Rubra' Its expired trademark name is Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Princess'⢠This cultivar has a tendency to revert to plain green leaves. The vines that have just green leaves will not start producing variegated leaves again. That means that if you did sell cuttings from this plant, you would have two types of cuttings, which would need to be correctly labeled: 1: variegated cuttings = Hoya carnosa 'Rubra' (commonly called 'Krimson Princess') 2: non-variegated cuttings = Hoya carnosa You would not need to root the cuttings. Hoyas are often, if not primarily, sold as unrooted cuttings. But seeing as this is a very common Hoya, your buyer market would be beginner Hoya growers, and they might feel less confident about their ability to root a Hoya. So, I don't know whether you would be able to move them that way or not. To root a Hoya, you just stick it in the medium you intend to grow it in, with one or more nodes (the bumps leaves grow from) underneath or in contact with the soil. Keep the medium moist but not wet, while rooting. It takes around a month, slower this time of year.

Yeah Mint You Want some? Cause I have tons!!!! I have a mint patch in my yard that I have mowed over, starved for water, walked on etc.. etc.. the stuf wont die.. I live in the mountains and we have harsh winters every spring my patch comes back up I harvest it now that its contained. putting up a small bed in full sun in your yard is easy just prepare your soil spread seeds evey year after that it will always come back and you can share my problem of too much mint LOL.. as far as cuttings go yeah you can but what a hassle seeds sprout in like a week!! good luck I too like mojitos and I make greek mint sauce for lamb a lot as well as tea etc.. I even blend my tobacco sometimes 50 50 mix with dried mint..
