How do you root hoyas and how long does it take?

I brought this big hoya over the weekend and i am regretting it cause it is just to big for the place i have it and the stems are really long and winding around each other.
But the flowers are big and pretty.

So anyways, i want to start cuttings from it and sell them on ebay.

But how do i root cuttings?
and will people buy just a piece of cut stem and root it themselves? lol
Please advise.

Also, this hoya is in a pot that is covered in i think moss and it is very moist. Another reason i dont want it, and it seems like it would be a pain to repot such a big plant.

Okay,

First of all, what you have there is a Hoya carnosa 'Rubra'
Its expired trademark name is Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Princess'Ã¢ÂÂ¢

This cultivar has a tendency to revert to plain green leaves. The vines that have just green leaves will not start producing variegated leaves again.

That means that if you did sell cuttings from this plant, you would have two types of cuttings, which would need to be correctly labeled: 1: variegated cuttings = Hoya carnosa 'Rubra' (commonly called 'Krimson Princess')
2: non-variegated cuttings = Hoya carnosa

You would not need to root the cuttings. Hoyas are often, if not primarily, sold as unrooted cuttings. But seeing as this is a very common Hoya, your buyer market would be beginner Hoya growers, and they might feel less confident about their ability to root a Hoya. So, I don't know whether you would be able to move them that way or not.

To root a Hoya, you just stick it in the medium you intend to grow it in, with one or more nodes (the bumps leaves grow from) underneath or in contact with the soil. Keep the medium moist but not wet, while rooting. It takes around a month, slower this time of year.

Hi Mike, It can take quite some time. I've rooted leaves in mix, that can take around a year. I've recently water rooted a stem, but didn't make note of the date I put it up. I took these pix, 'cause they show the round tuber AND the roots the plant develops. I really don't remember how long it took, but am guessing 9 months maybe, like from last Fall (I think I had accidentally broken the stem off the parent plant). and and So if you can grow some serious patience, you might end up w/ something like this. I think I'll take mine to my local Plant Society to pass around & show this development & then sell it at their plant sale table for a couple of bucks.

Hardwood cuttings grow best in coarse sand with intermittent water. Of course, this is outside and well past the time of freezing-pipe weather! If you know a hydroponic grower, ask to use his "cloner". A cloner will put roots on your stick in probably three or four weeks. I'm guessing on the time element, since I only clone tomatoes, which will develop a root ball the size of a golf ball in under two weeks! I grow tomatoes and strawberries hydroponically, but follow several forums.

takes 20-50 days to root... The cutting that is the trunk I usuall lay it in its side & cover 1/2 the stem with soil. There are nodes & buds along the stem I try to arrange it so most of these buds are at or above the soil

How long does it take to do an addition, anyway?

I know this is a very old post. But I had to laugh at some of the comments talking about months to do an addition. The original post didn't even give a size. Unless I missed it. I'm a woman. My husband and I do reno's all of the time. We did a 12x14 bedroom with a vaulted ceiling 15 years ago. For foundation, framing , sheathing and roof it took about a week. Sheet rock took another week or so. We're putting another 12x12 room on this coming July. We're taking a deck off and adding a room. The key is demolition. I'll have that done while he's working. Then my son and I ( he's 24 and off of work for the summer ) we'll dig 9 holes. 48" deep for the sonotubes. I plan on having those in before my husband takes his vacation and starts building. All material will be here and ready to go. We hate hanging sheet rock so we're going with a knotty pine ceiling and walls. It should take about a week to have the room done. Not including the interior but the structure should be done. Of course we have done it before and have electricians and general contractors in our family.
