black spots on skins of Jalapenos????

Ok...I've searched and searched and now I'm posting as I can't seem to find any posts and pics of the problem with my jalapenos. I will post a pic as soon as I can find my camera cord, but for now here is my question....Is it normal or not for Jalapenos to have black smudge looking spots on the skins. It is not purple but a deep black. The stems are fine, the leaves are alittle yellow on the affected plants, the skin is healthy looking just black on usually one side, sometimes both. Other plants are fine, no black smudge spotting. New to growing Jalapenos. Thanks for all time and attention given. Very much appreciated.

Had a few with the same thing. I think its from direct sun. Didn't affect the taste of mine at all though.

If as you say this is more of a blackish wash or diffuse area of color rather than distinct spots then I think this is perfectly normal. Many though not all of my Jalapenos do this.

There are diseases that cause spots (usually brown and usually on the leaves) and some which cause black rotten areas on fruit. I don't think that is what you have based on your description though.

Maybe you should do a search on google and click "images" to see all sorts of photos of Jalapeno fruit. That might help.

??? trying soaking in baking soda & sea salt w/ alttle peroxide & gently using a pumus stone or foot scub(good home remedy is 1tps of ea. sea salt+ baking soda & fine oatmeal) also soaking w/ clorox if that doesn't help you need to see a doc immeditely cause you may have some dying skin from what ever corn meds you used! paula michigan sunshine

I'm betting it's pear scab. Too late to control it this year, but clean up and discard all leaves this fall, then spray with a fungicide in the spring before the flowers open and again after the petals fall. Agreed on sooty blotch, the dark sunken spot with the black center doesn't look like scab to me (at least not the way I normally see it present) It does look just like a type of rot we often get on our honeycrisps during wet years; but that normally shows up much later in the season....close to harvest. I don't know the name for it, but generally the apples are still harvestable and we just cut out that section. It usually has well defined edges and a narrowing cone of mushy rotten apple extending down from the surface. My experience with bitter pit is a tan "corky" area under the dimple in the skin, and a Spartan says it gets worse during storage.

The purple streaks are normal, it is the plants way to protect itself from the sun. You may even see the dark purple on the pods too. Black spots on the leaves could be a problem though, and you need to keep an eye on this as it could easily kill your plant.

I got this on my jalapenos too this year, and I agree with Beastmaker. I had some flowers still wrapped around the jals when I got home from my business trip. I pulled them off to find that there was no discoloration underneath. I guess it is like a sunburn for the peppers? They still seem to be growing just fine.
