Burning the pods is recommended? And the fumes wouldn't contain the toxicity....? BDSV must be different from poison ivy then. The Monarchs is what determined me to do my level best to eradicate all mine (& my close neighbor's). It took me 3 years with a LOT of handpulling, and luckily I never got as bad an adverse reaction as some on this thread. (Just a very mild rash once when I forgot gloves & holding my breath when pulling out the bigger, more mature plants with pods in the very first season.) They are MUCH reduced now, & I never get the pods, but the tiny thin filaments still try to poke up out of the ground underneath some of my other valued plants such as hostas & hydrangeas. Eternal vigilance is needed to fight these dreadful weeds!!

I couldn't even begin to let someone do a pedicure on me when I had my ingrowns. The pain was intense and throbbing. In one case, I actually had a red line that ran from my toe to the middle of my calf. It was that infected and did I mention it hurt? Yikes. The pain was so severe that the doctor gave me 11 (eleven) shots of Novacaine, and Zylocaine and neither of them worked. Eleven! After over two hour trying to numb and fix the toe, the dr. said it was after hours and he had somewhere to be. I could go home and come back the next day or have him remove it without anesthesia. I chose to have him cut it out. I held on the nurse so tight while the procedure was being done that she probably still has fingernail marks on her arm. They had to ask my DH to leave the room because he was feeling faint. LOL Men, whadda they know of pain? :-) Jodi-

Even in my cold zone, I'm not sure I'd describe Madame Isaac Periere as exactly "mannerly". She often gets pruned to the ground here and yet by mid-summer she's off trying to visit neighboring roses on their supports and needing a firm scolding from me. She's also not a repeat bloomer for me, though that might have something to do with pruning to the ground every year. The "real" Reine des Violettes is the same hot pink, fragrant, and reportedly thornless and a rebloomer. I say the last two with a caution, as the Not RdV is sold some places and it's a similar bloom but thorny and a once-bloomer. I know that Burlington sells the real one and there have been other confirmations of real RdV. My real RdV is too young to judge, but I think she'd also be unlikely to be very mannerly a climber in a warm zone like yours - the Not RdV can get pretty rambunctious in my zone. In my zone, Laguna is a pretty reliable hot pink climber, but no telling how mannerly it would be in your zone. If you want to shake things up a bit color-wise, you could go with a climber in white with hot pink picotee edges like Harlekin or Antique 89. Cynthia

Just wanted to provide an update, particularly for all of you who have been so helpful in this ludicrously long repair process. By calling a number of auto body shops with the vulnerability that I couldn't help but hide on the phone ("Hi, I'm really hoping you can help me because I'm still trying to solve a problem after 7 months. I realize this is a weird request for an auto body shop, but stick with me for a bit...") I finally found an auto body shop willing to take me on. (Shout out to Bruce Easton at Auto Body of Vienna, Virginia!) We decided to stick with automotive paint. I recognize that the safest thing to do would have been to have the parts sprayed with more heat protective products. Who knows.... we may end up there in a year or two. But I don't think we will. With the expert advice (above) of @wdccruise as well as @The French Barn - Lacanche Canada, as well as lengthy conversations with the automotive folks at numerous shops, I'm pretty convinced that the front panel of our oven (and definitely the kick plate) should not be getting higher than 140 degrees and that automotive paint is "built" to stand up to that. Time will tell. Perhaps I'm more confident about this since our oven door -- I understand this much better since it had to be removed -- was built in two parts. There's an interior panel that faces the blazing oven (with glass built in) and then that piece is sandwiched with the exterior panel (also with glass attached at the factory). If you ever try cleaning your oven door and see there are some drips/stains you just can't get to, then you have a similarly constructed oven. Perhaps most of them are built that way; I'm certainly no expert. In any event, boy did I clean the heck out of all four glass surfaces! So at least for now, my blue range is back in action. Using automotive paint allowed us to choose the exact color we wanted. We chose a tone that was more cobalt than the initial color and my photography isn't professional, but here's the result: Thanks again to everyone who stuck with me through this and offered your opinions/advice.
