It looks sort of like cork and it is by the surface of the pear. Each spot is something like 1/8" or so (bigger or smaller as well). I think Geraldo may have it there; bitter pit is primarily a problem on apples but I have also seen it on my asian pears. One last long shot is stink bugs, but these mainly deform the fruit and you did not mention deformed fruit. See good link below for more information on bitter pit including treatment. My jade has these black spots too. It is a baby jade my friend gave me (first one for me!)about an inch tall with 4 leaves and 2 tiny leaves at the top. After I transplanted it I didn't want to water it for a long time because I read the roots need to heal first, right? So, I kept it inside because it's been raining every day here in Florida. Then after about a week and a half inside, I put it outside. It got one heavy rain, but I have it in well-draining cactus soil, so assumed that was okay. It gets FULL FULL sun all day outside. After about another week outside I noticed all of my succulents that I had recently transplanted and moved inside and outside with this plant looked sunburned. It is weird to think this could happen to a desert plant, but they did. My aloe had red tan lines where the upper leaves blocked the lower leaves. A baby aloe I just moved to its own pot turned brown and squishy. Luckily, I moved it back inside and watered and it came back to a healthy green. Anyway, this after this sunburning, my jade leaves got a litte bumpy. They're still hard but they aren't waxy looking like I've seen on big jades. Then they developed these brown spots. Could this be from the sun. The spots look like they are part of the leaf and not a fungus. Sorry about such a long question, any ideas?

bingo bango ... i was going to further suggest.. the barbie ... lol ... what struck me.. is that it was in a pattern ... generally.. leaf disease.. is NOT going to attack a single limb ... it will be more generalized over the whole tree ... let me further guess... it was a 100 degree day.. and a balmy evening.. and you decided to basically hang fire in your tree ... ROTFLMBO ... the leaves were probably already stressed.. and you just took them over the edge.. anyway.. they will fall off in a few weeks... maybe .... there is some branch damage.. but we will not know that until it buds out in spring ... i wouldnt worry too much about it ... its a maple.. you could cut it off at ground level.. and it will be as big next year .... good luck ken

As far as the black spots turning orange I haven't seen that happen. I have seen the oxidation occur in varying degrees of areas affected .The staining can be from light yellow to dark brown. I have seen 100 year old white marble installations with no signs of oxidation as well as new installations with immediate signs of oxidation. I don't know what your black spots are, I doubt the black spots will turn orange. Send a pic of the black spots. Can you feel them, are they pitted? Possibly areas that water finds its way underneath or puddled on the surface could oxidize if in fact there were iron within the stone. Its really unpredictable when white marbles oxidize. I get many calls regarding mysterious occurrences or maybe I can call them anomalies regarding new stone installations and issues on older installations. The fact is they aren't in most cases mysteries at all. There is almost always a reason(based on petrology and mineralogy) for why something occurs in regard to stone installations or issues with a particular stone. The attached pic is a commercial bathroom. The marble stays wet for long periods of time. This of course is extreme oxidation.
