Yes yes, finally got the Dwarf Watermelon Plumeria. Pic incl.

I am so jazzed about my little Dwarf Watermelon Plumeria that I have wanted for so long and now I finally got it.

I was on a trip to France and ended up at Mont St. Michel that is a coazy little city with a huge cathedral build on top of a little mountain in the water, I guess they wanted to be pretty much alone out there back then. Now they have made a road out there with a huge parking space for tons of tourists.

The weather was terribly rainy, cold and windy in that part of France and back home in Denmark a heatwave got stuck over the country and it was really nice to come home to. But I have never imagined that the heatwave had triggered my Dwarf Plumeria to creat such a huge flower buket though it's such a small compact plant. The first flowers were kind of white with 6 petals and a little pink on the edges but new flowers got the right watermelon colour and the smell must come from Heaven. I am really happy with that little wonder in my collection. I have to thank my dear brother for taking so good care of the plants when I was on vacation.

How beautiful. I love the curled petals and it looks like it has a ton of foliage on it. I have one like that, It kinda bends from the leaf weight.

If you want a small tree at the right end of bed (near corner) then putting in a Hydrangea that's NOT a tree, won't work. You'll need to find another place for it. Earlier I recommended PG Hydrangea which can be grown as a small tree. Burning Bush, common Lilac or Philadelphus coronaria are other large shrubs that make good small, multi-trunk trees. For planting a large groundcover bed, you'd want to arrange plants in rows with the leading row in line with the front edge of the bed, but set back a uniform distance from it. Usually, the same spacing between plants works well as the front set back distance... so let's say for Hosta, 18". Then space them 18" apart in the row. 18" Behind that row is another row laid out in the same manner, except that you would place these plants not directly behind the first row, but offset them so that they are staggered relative to it. Continue the process until you have reached the back of the bed and filled it up. Since you are planting around trees, just don't place a Hosta where the tree is. You can come close, but not so close that you are struggling with tree roots (the tree being the Dogwood) as you don't want to disturb its ability to grow. When the Hosta grow, they will nestle around the tree trunks just fine. Though you PLAN the planting beginning with the first row, you'd actually install plants beginning with the last and work your way backward so you are not crushing installed Hosta as you plant more. That's the manner in which you'd approach laying out a normal large bed. Now let me contradict that. If your bed is only 4' deep from front to back, the above instructions would only allow you to place 2 rows in the bed. That'd work OK, but if you have sufficient Hosta and want a full look more quickly, keep the plant spacing the same, but adjust the row spacing so that you can fit in 3 rows...say each being 12" apart. (Spacing would now be 18" o.c. x 12" rows.) Whether you install whole Hosta clumps or split them up is a factor of How many you need vs. how many you have available. Split them if you're going to need a lot of Hosta or if the clumps are so huge they just need splitting.

Hey Alex, Your palms look like they didn't miss a beat from last year.I'm glad you showed that vinca.I have that vine taking over my back yard.I never knew what it was,it has pretty little purple flowers on it,but LORD is it invasive.The only difference between yours and mine is mine has solid green leaves,yours looks variegated.Keep your eye on it,there's places where it's three feet thick in the very back of my property.I don't know where it came from,but I want it gone.I've sprayed it with roundup,burned it,poured bleach and ammonia on it,and it still comes back every year.I like the look of all your other plants,but that one.The same goes for crape myrtles,they pop up everywhere,dont get me wrong.I have two big ones,a white one and one I call watermelon color.I wish palms would pop up like them,I wouldn't mind some fortuneis or some palmetto volunteers.Maybe in ten years or so they will start popping up since it seems like everyone is growing them now.Talking about heat it's been 90* plus for the last three days.I wish I had a pool,I'd have it opened up days ago.Love the Spindle palm.Well I hope your Banana starts doing better. I hate dropped inflos :((( I also hate when my buds fall off and never bloom :((( especially if I have to spray pesticide ('organic'). Ok, so I am premature in saying this, but I felt a little faint when today I feel like my suspicion that one of the Goldilocks twins maaaaaaayyy be the very beginning of pushing an inflo....ohpleasepleaseplease...say it is so. Peg - it's kind of funny because I felt I was very lax last year with ferts, pesticides, etc. but it's funny to see how the plants are kind of doing what they want anyways for the most part...I just know yours will pick up!!

Hello Everyone, Jo, i checked on where i purchased my Mangos..It was from Pine Island Nursery in Florida. If you were asking about where to purchase some Plumeria, I would suggest Florida Colors, Jungle Jacks and Maui Plumeria Gardens. If you wnat to but some cuttings, you can always try ebay...be careful though, i was just recently burned there. You can find some reputable sellers like one stop Aloha...i would trust them. Thank you for bringing back this thread!!! Made my day to see the change in my trees since last year!!! LE, Thank you for the nice comments...welcome to the forum!!! Artic, Seriously? You have the best ability to grow anything!!! Living in Utah, with the snow capped mountains in the background and growing Palm trees and Plumeria there? I am always in awe at what you have done and what you have growing in your area. If only the people here on this forum could see some of your pictures of your palms...They wouldnt believe it. Please for some of my Plumie friends who dont get to see what we Palm freaks see on that forum...post a few pics of your Windmill with the snow capped mountains behind...you know the pic that im talking about...its beautiful!!! As far as your Plumies, you have blooms all year ... Im glad to hear that you have some that are blooming well!! Nice to see you over hear on the Plumie side!!! Barbra, Jen is correct in that i would value those red veined seedlings. Also the red leafed seedlings.. That to me is a good indication that you will have a dark red blooming Plumeria or something deeper than the usual yellow, white ot even pink. When i see the seedlings like that that have red leaves, veining..they are keepers. I did give one of my red veined seedlings to Hunter. He is a young 13 year old who loves Plumeria and Palmtrees..How could i not share one with him!!! : ) Hunter, if you are reading this post...i would love to know how your tree is doing? Remember, it is in the Gritty Mix and likes to be watered more than in the normal soil. That mix is very fast draining. Jen, How is everything? Any rain? Thanks for helping Barbra with her questions!!! You are so nice to help with all of the questions. I have been very busy with work and it has been crazy with the weather, delays etc. Ugggg! The plumie flowers above are lovely, such a lot of flowers on the one inflo.
As for the French Mont St Michael, did you know that here in the UK we have our very own version called...wait for it...St Michael's Mount and it's in Cornwall??!!

Thank you so much for all the kind replies to my pics. You have to know I'm more than happy sharing my experiences and pics. with all you Plumeria growers out there as I swallow yours too and must say this forum is great.

Gill you are so cool, hehe I did not know St. Michael had a Mountain in the UK too!! In fact I didn't even know about that one in France if it haven't just poped up out there in the water as I drowe by the flat landscape. Cornwall and Normandy are so very close so why not have two equal "Monts" hehe they might be able to look at oneanother in clear weater. I have to go see the one in Cornwall too. I love weird buildings and I live in a city that is 1270 years old and we have tons of old weird stuff too. I just can't figure out why this St. Michel/Michael wanted to be isolated out there in the water I would rather stay inland and feel more safe there.

I'm glad you are happy with what I sent you and I look forward to hear about the germination rate of the Plumeria seeds. As I tried 30 seeds in my rose garden in May and 28 plants came out of there and they are really strong and healthy. The Stretlizia seeds however takes forever to germinate but Im shure you will be successfull with them too.

Hi Soren, the causeway is under water when the tide comes in so it's only accessible at low tide. The castle atop the *mountain* is surrounded by semi-tropical gardens but I have only viewed it from the shore, so it has many interesting plants. You would find Cornwall very interesting especially if you could visit the Scilly Isle gardens at Tresco Abbey as they are unusually tropical and are a just short 20 minute helicopter flight from the mainland at Penzance.
