Banana Peppers attacked by hornworm

I'm relatively new to gardening (this is only my second summer to have a garden). I came home from a weekend trip to discover that most of the leaves and some of the peppers on my banana pepper plants were gone. Came home tonight to find a gigantic hornworm happily chewing on the plant (and proceeded to kill it). So, now that I've found and removed the culprit, what are the chances that the plants will recover and continue to produce? Will the leaves come back, or should I just write off my pepper plants for this summer (which would make me very sad)?

Thanks for any advice.
