What I love the most about planetrees are that they are adaptable to such a wide potential planting range. From zone 4 hardiness on down to zone 10b lack of cold. From east coast humidity to west coast aridity. And they have a reasonable amount of drought tolerance and salt tolerance, growing in the heaviest of compacted clay to the well-drainiest of sandy sand blocks from the beach. They may make a mess but they grow rapidly and provide shade and cover for areas that need it quickly without the drawbacks of being brittle or have overly aggressive roots like many of the willows and poplar. 1 or 2 quick walk-throughs per week with a leaf blower will make short work of cleaning up after a mature sycamore. Such a cleanup regimen could coincide with lawn mowing anyway, so it's not a major problem unless the owner is averse to doing any yard work or having a lawn service take care of it.

I love Acer saccharum! It might be my very favorite tree. There are lots of them around here, that sometimes display color like that. It seems fall is delayed somewhat - the color is peaking in some of the wetlands, but the trees are only starting. Except for the Norway maples - which never turn orange but occasionally get a decent yellow. This year they have a lot of crunchy brown leaves, for some reason? The crunchy brown leaf syndrome is affecting other trees but to a lesser degree than Acer platanoides. Maybe whatever ever it is will kill off some of them!
