Pepperoncini Plants 'Burnt' Looking

I ordered four of these from a local garden center, and after hardening them placed them outside. They seemed to be doing fine for the first week or two, however now they are looking 'burnt' or 'scorched' (the leaves are wilting and folding), and some of the leaves are beginning to turn yellow and fall off.

We have been getting quite a bit of rain lately, and the soil seems to be fine in nutrients (I have some tomatoes, lettuce, and green peppers, all of which are growing fine).

Honestly it looks o.k. to me. It should survive. I had many that looked as bad or worse earlier in the season and they are doing fine now. It really could have been the rain and they could drown but if it stops and you don't over water them I would guess they will grow out of it.

Put some mulch or straw below the plant to avoid the dirt splashing on the plant. It can cause disease.

Well, evidently you're both correct. Close inspection found mites, leaves look exactly like rust. Thanks -- I always appreciate the help I get from forum folks.

Hello Seysonn! Well, sadly, those plants are dead. They got bacterial speck and I pulled them, as I did not want it to spread to the rest of my plants. But! The silver lining is that the newer plants that I got (nursery plants) are doing ok. They are somewhat purple from the cold, but I think they will 'make it'. If they don't I can pull them too since I ended up with an awesome batch of seedlings that I homegrew (sweetie, super sweet 100). So, guess I will just chalk all of this up to experience and hope for better luck next year. It has been a great learning experience, so i'm pretty sure i'll do better in the future! So glad your plants are doing well! From what i've read you are a seasoned gardener, and I admire all the experienced gardeners on here, they have been so helpful to me in my gardening journey. I have loads of them inside my tent mostly bugs and flies, it doesnt look good. I would definitely buy some kind of powder for that. And try not to over fertilise as it won t do much good to your plant. My main problem was and still is bad soil, so you could provide us with some kind of picture of your soil, and as said before more pictures where we can see actul plant.

They look to me like they are getting more water than they want. If it continues raining, put something water proof around the base of the plants so the water doesn't soak in.

I would expect them to recover. They don't look like they are dying.
