Granted, I cheated and bought some blooming plants recently, but whatever. :)

Thanks all for the nice comments! I really don't have many neighbors, except for the roving gangs of elk bulls. We live high up (4,700 ft) and it's pretty rural out here. Most of my friends who visit find it charming for about a day before they get the itch for the city life! The HP's and bourbons really like it here, and I do not have serious problems with powdery mildew. Blackspot is virtually nonexistent, and I know that this is the bane of most of the hp's and bourbons. Also, I applied what I learned on this board to my garden and it has made a world of difference, especially the use of compost, manure, and organic fertilizers. Mrs. Yamada I purchased from Hortico when they still carried it. I'm not sure why they don't carry it anymore.

Hiya plstqd and all, Yup, I really, REALLY do have a petunia variety that survives our summers here: 'Old Fashioned Climbing' mix from Select Seeds. I've convinced several other local gardeners to try it and all have had great success with the plants. I should be getting some kind of royalty from Select Seeds, LOL. Anyway, I got my original plants (in 2003) from SEED that I started indoors and then planted outside in very early spring. Those plants have self-sown all over my previous garden and in my current garden (both in Scottsdale). No individual plant lasts forever but most last 3 or 4 years before petering out, and they self-sow nicely around the garden which is really fun. In my old and in my current garden the happiest ones get some afternoon shade, so along the east side of the house, or walls or big shading plants, seems to keep them happiest. I wouldn't trust them to survive the summer in a pot in sun, but in the ground with afternoon shade I've had great luck long term. Just keep in mind they're lanky and tall (but they bloom nicely) so they flop around after the stems get super long, and the flowers aren't HUGE or bright, but they come in nice colors from lavender through white with some pinks and in-betweens too. They ARE heavily scented at night though, especially in spring/autumn. The plants look a bit tired in summer (who doesn't?!) but most survive, so plant several and be sure to collect seed or let them self sow. I think they're really great. The one in this pic, a nice crisp white with the telltale veining right at the center, has done great in the ground for almost three years now, and got zero protection in summer or winter. What's not to love? If you or anyone gives them a try (in the ground!), let us hear how they do for you. Select Seeds usually sells seeds AND plants in spring, and then seeds only in autumn. I'll post a link if I find one that works. I've ordered from them for many years and have been absolutely pleased with everything I've gotten, and no, I don't work for them or get a commission, LOL. Thanks everyone! I love the poppies both for the smaller foliage, variety of colors and shapes and also because they flower a bit longer than the others. The only thing to watch with them is that they reseed everywhere, right now I have a few popping up in the laneway! I try to pull out the overflow and keep them contained in the garden. Marg

Nice to see your gardens again Paule. I went to your album and remembered your secret garden and those beautiful renaissance gowns you made. Your aloe is wonderful, mine don't blooom. Your roses are lovely, do you know the names of them? Is that a Queen's Wreath or Sandpaper Vine growing over the archway into your secret garden? I love your brick pathways. Bought or not...all beauties. Thanks for posting them. I'll be adding the Cherokee to my list.

Ditto on the Japanese Lantern. Mine is a youngster but I have been told that it can be hard to control.

Lynn, you will love Siam Ruby. It was one of the first 3 plumeria I bought from FC. I bought it on Carol's recommendation. Tex told me it's his his favorite red. Barbra

Gorgeous! Stop making me want to buy more. I've already added about 45 this summer and I'm getting worried about winter and trying to decide whether to put the youngs ones in the sunroom and big ones in the garage or just get a hoop house and heat them all at once.

Whow whow!!! Lynn, you have hit the jack pot, you blooms are beautiful! I have Siam Ruby it is an early bloomer, it bloomed early this spring for me. My favorite is Wildfire, and Kimi Morage. I will try and get Queen Amber next year. Keep posting the pictures, love them. I will return the favor this fall. Barbra.

Just adding a few more blooms

Kimi M... first appearance this year. Blooms are much larger than last! So I'm glad I kept her!

Artec Gold is incredible! The flowers are HUGE at least 4" and the fragrance is to die for! I adore her.

Divine continues to bloom. Although small she makes up for it in blooming time... my first to bloom and probably my last.

CA Sunset... stole my heart this season. I can't believe I almost gave her away!

CA Sunset... both her appearance and fragrance are much better this year than last.

CA Sunset ... doesn't get any better than this.

A lovely collection. Are they all in pots or in the ground?

I only have a few blooming at the moment. All of mine are in pots (three are plunged). I would like to find permanent homes in the ground for them at some point.

Astrl - all of mine with the exception of 4 are in pots. I planted four in the front yard. They are all doing fine...in ground and in pots. I just water the in ground ones less.
