Comments (23)Kandhi!! I remember you from the fragrance forum. NIce to see you! I LOVE all your plants and especially the plumeria, which Laura knows I have a thing for, and your Jasmines. How in the world do you avoid or keep mites at bay with such tall jasmines? That is the one thing I am so afraid of battling with if I buy some. I love them, yet know there are so many hiding spots on the leaves. That room must smell so good. That jasmine with the white flowers, is it one of the best fragrance ones? Have you ever grown night blooming jasmine? I tried once, and no matter what I did, I could not keep mites off of that 3 years ago. I was told to just cut them back and let them go wild in the spring outdoors. Is this what you do? I too have the same likes in plants in you if you have not already noticed. They have to give off a fragrance, flower, or be quite unique in color appearance on the leaves to occupy prime space in my house. Hello everyone else. I hope you all have a great day! Comments (0)Hi, a few weeks ago I purchased a Daphne Eternal Fragrance from the local nursery. It's apparently hardier than other daphnes and supposedly tolerates subtropical conditions. It's not loving said subtropical conditions. Yes, yes admittedly we didnt get off to a great start: it got rained on for 15 days nonstop (while nearby towns evacuated and what not due to flooding) but that was a few weeks ago, and it's still presenting yellowed leaves (entire leaf yellow - vein and inter-vein). I've given it worm juice (other plants say "ooooh yum yum, more please, see all these new things I grow on me when you feed me worm juice" but it says "didnt notice, here's a yellow leaf for you". I've decided to give it my Secret Gardenia Growing Recipe (which upon employing it has never seen another gardenia give me yellow leaves again!), that involves sitting the pot on crocks to ensure super good drainage, daily watering, worm juice, AND the occasional epsom salts foliar spray. Actually i dont think i epsom-salted the Daphne. This has made a SLIGHT difference, not much. But there is NO new growth on this thing. It just seems to be stagnating and giving me a yellow leaf each day. It's in strong morning sun and dappled midday-mid-arvo sun and then shade. As i say, i cant find 'general' instructions anywhere for getting this plant happy. Any advice is appreciated....See MoreSeedlings have 'Halo' - Light color in the middle
Comments (9)"...when you look from the top of the plant, you can see a distinct circular shape of faded green leaves; as if it did not produce ample amount of chlorophyll, so the leaves on that circular area is lighter in color than the normal darker green leaf...." I'm going suggest the likelyhood that those plants in question are harboring leaf miners. You may see squiggly light/white colored (sometimes "halo" looking) areas on leaves. Common host plants are tomato, pepper, spinach, squash and pumpkin. Leaf miners are small caterpillars that burrow in between the leaf layers so they can't be reached with a regular insecticide. Although difficult to control w/ pesticides, Rotenone and Pyrethrum have been known to help in control but will also affect the fruit to some degree.. The best defense is to cut away and completely destroy infested leaves. Biological control would be to introduce parasitic wasps. If it is the case where you definately have leaf miners, control is a must. Several generations of this insect will develop in a summer. It is said that approx. 60% of the plant leaves must be infested before noticeable affects are seen on fruit and yield. Paul B....See MoreYellowing Leaves
Comments (5)Thanks very much for your replies. I've had the peppers about 2 months watered them about 3 or 4 times. But it's rained alot so they have gotten alot of water. I wait until the top inch of the soil is dry before watering (I use my finger to test). Some people on the vegetable forum sugguested it may need fertilizer and that the fertilizer has been drained from the soil because of all the rain. (I had been worried that perhaps there was too much fertilizer since the edges of the eggplant leaves were getting singed) Crafting4goddess - If the one in the artsy pot isn't getting good drainage - that would seem to make sense. Although I have little experience - I've read that yellowing can occur from over watering. I don't think that's it for mine b/c when the soil gets dry - it doesn't perk up - but maybe I'll let that one go a few more days than I have been to see....See Moremacbettz
