I've had a huge success regrowing the plant without seeds. Look at the plant carefully. There are always two leaves where the flowering stalk comes out. However before the stalk comes out, cut about an inch or two (without a flowering stalk) and stick it into wet potting soil. only leave the top two leaves and cut out the rest (at the bottom) if any. That way it wont tire out the plant. leave the plant in the pot for a couple of months watering it on a regular basis. keep the soil moist not saturated. Keep it where its not too hot because it would tire and dry out the leaves. if possible make a small greenhouse for the plant that way it can stay humid and moist. All I would do is keep them under a tree where there was plenty of shade. During the HOT south texas months of october/november I would keep them indoors. Within a few months the roots will start coming out and there you have it and cloned plant. I did this with 3 plants around october/november of 2007 and I have two plants that are ready to bloom.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it...simply because plumeria love the sun. Lots of it. I have even kept them under grow lights and even that is only for the winter and not ideal. I do not think a plumeria can survive under only a flourescent light - they are not giving the plant enough of a full spectrum to keep it healthy. Even being grown indoors by a sunny window is not usually great. Seedlings are a lot of fun, I grow a lot of them myself, but if you want the best for it I would say an office is not a good place for it.

To add on to tdogdad's comment, the main threats to plumeria are cold, as in frost/freeze, or wet roots. If your area experiences frost/freeze conditions you need to protect the plants by putting them into a greenhouse, storing them over the winter in the house or garage, or covering them with frost cloth to protect them from frost. Freezing temps will severly damage or kill the plant. There are people that dig their plumeria up every fall and store them bare root in the garage. Then, when the frost danger has passed, they replant them in the ground. Others keep their plants in pots and either move them to a greenhouse or indoors in their pots. Check out plumeria101.com. The literature says 3-14 days. If you have viable seeds that were harvested during the same year that you plant them, I've found it normally takes several days to a week to sprout. This also depends on the temperature, time of year, etc. If you plant them with the seed head submerged and the wing sticking up, you will notice the seed lifting out of the soil when it sprouts. As the literature says, sometimes the outer casing or sheath will get stuck on the cotyledons. If that happens, it is occasionally necessary to help the sheath off. (I use tweezers) Be careful, as you can easily damage the seedling or pull it out of the soil. John
