What is the fastest germinating pinnate palm palm tree?

Hi. I am looking for the fastest germinating palm seed in which the palm has pinnate shaped fronds. I talked to Banana Joe on youtube about the fastest palm seed he has ever germinated and that came back as Washingtonia Robusta, which is a fan palm. Now I'm looking for the fastest germinating pinnate palm seeds. So if there is one, I'll be very grateful. Thanks in advanced.

It all depends on the freshness of the seed. All palm seeds have the ability to germinate rather quickly if they are fresh and viable. In my experience ive had Phoenix, Veitchia, Adonidia, and beccariophoenix all germinate within days of soaking. freshness is key.

Dates. Go to your local grocery and get some medjool dates with seeds in them. Eat the dates (nature's candy) and get all the fruit off. Wash and dry them for a few days. Soak in warm water for 24 hours (change regularly). Place in moist vermiculite in a sealed plastic food container and place in a warm place (I use my hot water heater closet). Mine sprouted in less than two weeks. I was so surprised.

Then gently place them in a pot with soil and cover. Instant, inexpensive palms.

I bought some T&M seeds just for the fun of it, and followed the instructions: Pluck off the orange fluff, put in moist sand, and put in absolute darkness in warmth. I had six out of eight seeds germinate, starting about a month afterwards, and going on to about three months. Plumeria gets quite large, up to about ten metres (30ft) or so, if I remember correctly, but can be kept smaller in pots. They take at about four years or so to start flowering, from what I've read. They are easy to germinate, though. I just stuffed the seeds upright, half-buried (just the seed part, not including the wing), into the soil, wing-side up, and they germinated in a few weeks. Be very careful, though, the stems of the seedlings are extremely fragile, I've found. A bit of shear pressure on them, and they snap easily. Pecans, I have no experience with. Palms, I haven't germinated, but I had some seeds someone gave me, and he said you just put it in some moist soil and wait for a couple of weeks, and they'll germinate. Good luck!

Can a female palm self-pollinate? That's what your message implies, so I guess it can. Cloning would be another option, whether male or female. I don't know about palms, but it's not difficult to clone most plants. Jim

@carsoncitypalms I started out joking, but seriously, that could be done. I am supplied with propagates by New Life Nurseries in Perris. They are set up with the USDA and ship as far as Texas. They don't do Mexican fan palms because they would not believe that there is a market. But they could have 1000 sprouts to you by next season for $500 plus shipping. As for myself, I have trimmed about 15,000 palm trees in my carreer if you count trimming the same palm each year for 20 years as 20. My records are over 900 in on summer season and 132 in two days on Catalina Island. A prime selling point to the hotels and commercial properties is that if they trim between June 15 and July 15, that they won't have to deal with the seeds. It is not unusual to walk on to a hotel property that has not listened and find several hundred Mexican fan palm sprouts in the gardens that they expect the landscapers to weed out. If they wait to August, the trimmer and ground crew has to deal with 75 pounds of green seeds on each tree which explode and spread as soon as they hit the ground. Since the daily quota is 20 70-foot palms, this can be 1500 pounds of seeds. By late September, the seeds are ripe, gooey and sticky. Here is another idea. Load the family up in the car and take them to Disneyland at the end of June. Attach a trailer with potting soil and propagate trays. After going to Disneyland, go around to the hotels and offer to weed their gardens for free. Write the whole trip off as a business expense.

That's right. From what I understand it was done on the basis of DNA testing. However, back in the 1800's it was at one time described as Saribus rotundifolius, and after having done the rounds is now back there again. I've found Carpentarias to germinate quite quickly, although some still come up later on. Not sure if that's inherent in the seeds or just a micro difference in their conditions. Calamus is one that surprised me with its speed. But I'd also suspect that freshness has a lot to do with it.

well Ive got some in my prop that are going on a little over a month with nothing... they all sank when soaked but I doubt they were very fresh 2 differant types and not a strap leaf to show

Some can take a year or two to germinate. It pays to check this out before you start holding you breath while you wait, LOL.

My Calamus (got both australis and moti, but mixed them) is up to the first split leaf after 4 to 5 weeks. Ptychosperma elegans I put in at the same time is showing nothing, except one which looks like a shoot is just emerging from the seed. Then some Nypa fruticans and Attalea amygdalina just look like inert lumps of wood. The trouble with those long term ones is you can wait forever and still not be sure whether you should throw them or not.

Rate of growth is one factor to consider but also consider how robust the plant is--especially growing OUT of their natural hardiness zone in the North. Don't have too much experience with palms from seeds other than with Washys and Date palms. Have had great success with Canary from seed--less so with the "True Date". You might want to try Butias from seed. They are fast grower, cheap, common, cold-hardy and vigorous! Also, keep in mind the importance of providing tropical heat to hasten germination--it makes all the difference in the world even fir the more cold hardies.
