If you've got lots of empty 2 liter bottles, you can just make your own. Make a ring of bottles using one in the middle as a guide and then tape them together. Take the one in the middle out and fill the rest with water. If you need a bigger ring, just use something with a larger diameter as the guide. Can't get more cost effective than free!

While I haven't priced them, I've seen them available at TLC. They weren't the Wall-o-Waters brand but were designed with the same concept in mind.

I've also had wonderful luck with Farmer's Grain here in Edmond. While they don't have a huge storefront, I've found they can order just about anything under the sun.

OK, Lynn, I gotta ask.....what and where is K&K. I like the soda bottle idea, too. They are wonderful for recycling to use as hot caps for seedlings, wintersowing seedlings, and now Wall-O-Waters! If the major soda companies knew about their use, they'd probably charge more for their product!

Enjoy the re-cycle while you can because there is a group actively trying to get a law passed to charge for each bottle and you only get your money back when you take them to the re-cycler.

Put K&K Nursery on your "must see" list for next spring. I've found some very interesting plants there not usually found in most of the nurseries I frequent. Earlier this fall I bought a Celeste fig tree from them and plan to pick up some hardy kiwi and more blueberry varieties from them in the spring. They also have a huge selection of flowers.

It's basically located right between Moore and Norman off Sooner Road. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable. I especially enjoy visiting with John -- who always wears this hat that looks like he's spent years in the Australian outback. Very nice guy who's so laid back that he's almost comatose.

I like your idea about soda bottles, so much so that I have used that method for several years. My challenges come from quantity. I gather so many soda bottles and milk jugs for various uses around here that the theme song to Sanford and Son starts playing anytime someone pulls in my driveway. In an effort to please my spousal unit, I'm looking to use the WOWs because they collapse and store nicely. I'm simply running out of room to accumlate enough soda bottles annually to accomodate my garden. I'm aiming for only 35 tomatoes this year (yeah, right) which would mean another 245 soda bottles just for those. I keep milk jug "hail hats" handy for my peppers (just over a hundred last year) which slide nicely over their bamboo stakes. It's an eyesore, but it has saved my veggies on more than one occassion. This year I'll also be using my soda bottles to protect my expanded list of cool weather veggies. (Tell soonergrandmom I don't have a seed count on that yet, but it will be about 550 square feet worth.)

But I definitely want to thank you, Leslie, for your kind response and emphasize that I do like it enough to have used it in the past. I'm just trying really hard to please hubs' visual inclinations as well. Did I mention it's hard being married to an architect? My saving grace is his appreciation for food!

the last ones i bought(several yr ago)were defective. half of the seams were not good and would not hold water.

I have used them in the past but it seemed to be counter productive. the plants grew fine but would still be a little tender and not really hardened off. so when i removed the wall they were a little weak and would be set back compaired to latter planted ones. That was my experience with warm season plants.

that and the fact that the last ones i bought were junk.

I bought a Wall-O-Water (pack of 3) from Ellison for $12. I never used them before, I may need expert advise.

1. Do they really help and worth the effort?
2. Can I transplant tomatoes/pepper today in the those wall o water?
3. Which of the following tomatoes should I plant and get first tomatoes as early as possible? These tomatoes seedling are big, 2-4 true leaves and 2-3 inches tall.

What abot using the wow or 2liters after the plants have been hardened off or if theres a couple days bad weather this time of year? Take the wow off on nights that wiil or could frost.

you better leave the WoW on during night, especially if it could frost.

it is also better if you set the WoW out a day before you actually plant, that way the soil is warmed up where the plant will be.

The WOW is actually a mini greenhouse for the plants.

You absolutely DON'T want to take the walls of water off if it might freeze. In fact, that goes directly against what the WOWs are doing for you.

Here's the key thing to remember: air changes temperature more rapidly than water. That's why you have to have many days of freezing weather before a pond will freeze. The air will "freeze" (reach 32) over and over, but water will take much longer to lose its heat mass and finally freeze.

The WOWS are like a pond. Because they are full of water, their temperature fluctuate much less rapidly. The WOW's accumulated heat mass helps keep the air around your plants at a warmer and more stable temperature.

Along the same lines, it is important to water your plants well before a freeze. Hydrated plant tissue that is full of water will be more resilient to temperature drops than plant tissue that, in a manner of speaking, has "air" in it.
