Too late to start seeds outside?

I am new to growing peppers. Somebody gave me what they thought was a thai pepper last fall and I was able to keep it alive over the winter (even got 3 peppers from it). But it is not the kind of thai pepper I really want. I really want those little "bird peppers" that you get sliced in fish sauce in thai restaurants. I am growing in pots on my balcony so I really only need one plant. But I havent been able to find one locally. Also want to try scotch bonnet and have only seen habs so far. So my question is: If I can get some seeds is it too late to start them in a pot outdoors? I am not set up to do any seed starting inside, but I was hoping it was not too late to direct sow outside. Temps here are in the 80-90 degree range and I wont be able to do anything until the weekend after Mother's Day (going to see my mama and will be gone for 4 days).

Possible? Have never grown from seed so any advice would be welcome

Thanks,

Lydia
