The container doesnt look as though it drains very well. It definitely needs good drainage and as much light as you can give it. Likes water but not wet feet. As for the tomatoes, I would suggest dicing them, put them in a bowl, chop some basil and add some olive oil, pepper and onions and you have yourself some pesto sauce. Add parmagane cheese and serve with pasta. :)

Great-thank you both (specially for the tomato recipe:) I havn't really checked the bottom or drainage since originally moving it discovered a mammothly huge spider and profileration of slugs on it. I relocated them outside and left it, hoping everyone would vacate the premises.

I will read up on magesty palms, and try to do it justice--I was considering adding a humidifer and grow light (since its larger than I thought, the only location it will fit in has minimal natural light unfortunately) Would you think either or both are necessarily..?

Majesty palms aren't the best candidate for long term containers, but should do okay for several years indoors. The more humidity and light you can provide, the happier it will be. This doesn't do as well as the slower growing Kentia palm does in low light conditions, it needs more light to thrive. These are so cheap and good sized as available at Lowes, Home Depot, etc, I would suggest not feeling any guilt in treating it as a temporary plant, and dumping it and replacing with a new one when it starts to decline. They aren't hardy enough to plant outdoors in most of the country, and even in California, they are a poor choice for most gardens because they need so much irrigation to do well.
