Red Flag Warnings Today for NW and NE OK

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

Two Red Flag Fire Warnings have been issued for two separate portions of our state. There is a separate Fire Weather Watch in an area surrounding one of the Red Flag Fire Warning areas.

In the northwestern corner of Oklahoma, there is a Red Flag Fire Warning in effect for a small handful of counties.

Over in the northeastern side of the state, there is a Red Flag Fire Warning in effect for two counties in the Tulsa area. Several other counties in that area have a Fire Weather Watch that could be upgraded to a Red Flag Fire Warning at any time if conditions warrant such an upgrade.

You can click on the map at the bottom of the linked page to read the warnings by clicking on any applicable county.

There's a chance there will be a Red Flag Fire Warning or two on Tuesday as well.

A chance of rain returns to portions of the state later in the week and maybe the moisture and increased humidity will help moderate the fire weather conditions.

All this wind the last few days sure is drying out the now frozen and dormant vegetation in areas that have had a hard freeze and that has contributed to the increase in fires we've seen the last few days.

Normally, our winter fire season starts in February or so, and I find it worrisome it is starting early. This is not completely unexpected though, because in areas plagued by recent drought, the fire season often starts early.
