Good morning from Perth Australia, i have the same issue here in Australia. It started about a few days ago and my tree is dropping brown flowers. We have been fertilizing it for years, it is has grown more than double in size. Leaves looking great, no bugs, roots in tip top shape and leave thriving too? I am puzzled and you all might be able to help. What was the outcome from 2012; the original post? Thank you so much ; will post a picture below. many thanks christina

I am thinking same as E. Not enough water to keep the blooms live longer. If I understood correctly its a newly rooted plant and probably does not have the root system quite yet to support growth and blooms so something has to give. You are no doubt in a dry climate so it will be hard (but not impossible) to over water during the summer. I would observe and see how it does in the new location then perhaps start to introduce to higher amounts of sunlight. Or look for afternoon shade locations to place it.

actually, they probably will not ripen indoors, unless thee is at least some yellow on the skin of the fruit. (supposedly over 7 percent yellow is needed) obviously, you can try, also, some people use them green, and make a type of cole-slaw - salad green papaya salad / Som Tum https://www.google.com/search?q=green+papaya+salad -- i fight this every year, trying to get ripe fruit before winter. i am in New Orleans (zone 9) if i protect the tree with frost cloth, and plant it very close to the house (south-side), it will come back in spring, and i get 2 - 3 months of fruit in the fall. then...' i still have to compete with the critters. they even took a fruit off the tree when i put a sock around it... LOL i am guessing my neighbor with find a sock in his yard somewhere... 2 plants next to the house, with evergreens on the side i chop the top few inches a couple times a year when young to keep them short.
