Whoo Hoo I have yellowing leafs!

Hey,

After last seasonÂs disasters, I can handle yellowing leafs LOL. No sign of damp off, thrips, tomato leaf rot etc. Only fungus gnats but I got Stick Sticks for them (no Erin, they havenÂt got me yet!).

Now if we have a dryer hotter season up here IÂm set. Got 60+ varieties started and hoping to have a good enough season to share seed next year.

I love the Spring!!!

I have 1 plant that has yellow leaf,what does that mean? Otherwise they're all doing great.

HA!! Good to know you are surviving Bill! I have two plants at work and someone came by and asked why the dirt was moving. SHHH!!! They are just gnats and they stay there!

yeah I have a little yellow on the tops of some plants and they are not over watered. I think they'll come out of it..

I have an interesting thing happening with my CY. I purchased it about a month ago at HD. It seems to be quite happy under my HUGE pot of Basjos getting lightly filtered sun for about 8 hours a day. It's put out at least 3 new leaves and grown almost a foot; now about 4 ft tall. Anyway.. yesterday I spotted what looked like three pups coming up inside the very bottom leaf, between the leaf and main stalk which is about 4" in diameter. I cut that leaf off at "ground" level to give them some room. They were growing flattened, not round. Anybody seen this?? BTW.. the very bottom leaf was very heathy, big and didn't really want to be cut off in its prime I do believe.

Update...its only been about 2 1/2 weeks but one set of buds opened today...not the darker shade of pink I was hoping but still very pretty! When I received this plant a little over 2 yrs. ago it had some spent blooms on it...that's how I knew it was the "pink" flowers. This picture was taken right after I received it, over 2 yrs. ago. Noticed how pink the blooms were (this was taken in Feb. 2010) I have NO idea what causes the blooms to change color? Not sure if its weather related since these are normally winter bloomers and its been in the 90's for several weeks now. Just wanted to update this thread! Thanks!!

You guys have got to get a truck. Suja, I'm not even done at 27. The thing is, although I have to make 27 trips, I do it on the way home from somewhere. Shovelling down into a wheelbarrow is a heck of a lot easier and quicker than trying to load it up into one. Plus, I have the Golden Pitchfork, my very favorite tool. I cannot IMAGINE ever again shovelling mulch with a shovel. What a nightmare I did for 2 years! Watergal, I have a friend who is a landscape architecht and a violent opponent of mulching. She's even published several articles on it. She insists it's a product of builders who cut down all the trees for the McMansion developments and have to find something to do with the byproduct: chipped up wood. She swears no where else in the country do they mulch like we do. I could go into the evils of why not to do so, but that's another thread. However, with as much land and garden as I have? I couldn't not mulch. I'd lose my tiny mind weeding. Or pretending to weed. However again, I've found myself looking for and planting ground covers that are now growing on the mulch. Plumbago, that aggressive Creeping Jenny, gorgeous vinca 'Trehane', and believe it or not, in my new (whisper) pink garden? I'm moving 'Lipstick' strawberry to be the ground cover. I've considered Vlad's strawberries in the big gardens, but decided they'd attract more of those evil rabbits. I decided plumbago and my favorite, low-growing chocolate mint (yes, mint) are the answer. Love them! So there you have it. I"m relived Lynne isn't "done". How awful for her that would be. (g) Plus, we'd have to kill 'er and bury her under the rose bushes. Christine

Genoprizebull,

Depending on how far along your pepper plants are, it may just be a natural die of of initial leaves. If itÂs just the bottom couple of leafs and the rest of the plant looks good, itÂs really nothing to worry about.

If the problem is with the overall plant, there could be multiple causes:

Low nitrogen or too much nitrogen;
Not enough magnesium;
Overwatering or;
Pests.

In my case, my starts are pretty far along. IÂm sure my problem is a result of nutrient deficiency. The starting mix I used was less than great. I have fed a few times with a weak fertilizer mix but itÂs time to increase the strength a bit. IÂll also be repotting into larger pots using a good potting mix. IÂll also mist the foliage with an epson salt solution to bump up the magnesium intake.

Others may chime in with causes I missed.

Thanks for the info. I have around 50 plants and only one plant has some yellowing on the tips of the leaves.They are only a couple of weeks old now.I was out of town for a few days and I lost a couple of plants because they dried out.That kinda hurt.
How much magnesium do they need? I'm going to get some epsom salt,is that right?
I also tried a different way to so the seeds.I started them in baggies and then put them in small cups with the bottom half potting soil and the top half seed starter.My thinking was that they'll start in seed starter and eventually the roots will hit the potting soil and get what they need there.
So many Q's ,but I'll give them a few at a time

ottawapepper I had about 15 plants that turned completely yellow and almost white, I only watered them once a week for a month or so and now their catching up with the other 20+ plants. Not sure what I did wrong but it fixed itself.
