Gardenathome, You are so right about that company. Drew, Save your time and money! Those people are crooks! I ordered there citrus collection years ago. Ask me where they are now. They died the same year I bought them. They souldn't advertise them as trees. They are more twigs with a leaf or two. I think there bulbs are probobly okay but NOT there citrus. I agree that it is a better idea to buy from reputable people instead of people that are crooks. You would have better luck on ebay! I went thru something similar just a few weeks ago. I wanted a Meyer lemon in the worst way. I emailed a few businesses online that sold citrus and I was floored with the cost. The biggest problem I had was not knowing the nursery personally. You never know who is good and who is not. I recommend the garden watchdog site before you decide on a nursery. I ended up lucking out. I found a nursery in my area that sells citrus and they had the Meyer lemon that I wanted so bad. I had too be willing to spend more then I wanted BUT I also agree with garden at home when they say that they buy the citrus when they can actually "see" it. That is what I did. I only wanted to spend around $50.00. I ended up spending $127.00 BUT I had to take into account that when ordering online, you end up paying a ton for the shipping, plus if you order now, depending on where you live, you may have to deal with below freezing temps. I was going to go with meyerlemontree.com. They "supposedly" had a sale going on. They were selling 3-4ft trees for $59.00. With the shipping and the cold protection, that tree came to $100.00! The meyer I have is about 6ft tall and about 3ft wide. I got it LOADED with flower buds and 11 fruit. I also got it in a 15 gallon pot(I think thats right.). I know that the roots are healthy and the tree is healthy and I could not have got this thru mail order for the simple fact that it would cost hundreds of dollars for me to pay for! Where do you live? I would call some nurseries that are local to you and ask them if they could order one in for you. I know that nurseries are having a hard time getting them in from Florida but not California and Texas. If that doesn't work, check ebay. I was considering ordering from Larry's orchids. They sell small trees for around $15.00 plus shipping. They even show you what you will get and they have many varieties to chose from. I just placed an order with Four Winds nursery in California. I bought a 2-3 year old tree that is coming bare root(Saves you on shipping fee.)for $70.00. Sounds like a lot but I did order a tree that should be between 3-4ft. They also sell smaller 1 year trees for a lot less that come potted. Another good piece of advice is to ask the members here if they have experience with buying from the nursery your considering. Along with gardenwatchdog, you increase your odds of getting the best bang for your buck. One more point. Check what there policy is on damaged or dead plants. My Aunt ordered some blueberry bushes from a nursery and they came dead. There is always a chance of getting damaged/dead plants. I have had it happen to me but the nursery replaced it for free. Now, after doing some thinking I am going to not be using a Horsfords dwarf. I need a little different needle structure as I was looking at its placement. It will be beside a pinus parviflora (not even sure of the name as I lost it) but I think it is Miyajima (10 or more years in only 2' by 1' with blue green needles. Anyway I want something different in needle structure beside it. I am needing something small again as I only have around 40" to work with in depth. I was thinking the picea orientalis Barnes. I have one and it has really done well here. I live in western Kansas which is a semi desert with heat and cold. Avg rain is under 20". I have created a different microclimate and have an irrigation system also, so most plants can survive for me. This area won't get more than 4-5 hours of direct sun but very bright light most of the time. Any ideas from all you experts would really be appreciated. Also, now that I am getting springs cleaning work done I tore out an old conifer that was getting a little scraggly. I am wanting something that is very low growing and will be placed in between two pines, Riverside gem and Jane Kluis. Again would anyone have any of your wonderful suggestions from the wealth of knowledge of seeing these things for all the years you have been growing them. I am the only person in my town of 5000 that grows dwarf conifers. In fact I bet you could find a handul of people in the whole half of western Kansas that even tries. I have a vast collection of them but am always wanting something new. I have had to tear out some in the last few years that have overgrown their area and I am going to fill that area in also. I am going to focus on the two areas in my back yard first though. I hope I have explained well enough and not confuse anyone so I can tap into that wealth of knowledge you all have. Thanks.

That's a shame, sorry to hear about it. I'm a plumber and when I used to work for a guy who did sewer replacements I would dig up the plants and bushes for the homeowner and set them aside in a nice shady place so I could return them when we were done. Can't you get a landscapers to do that for you?

well, I think I ended up answering my own question - thanks to everyone who posted!! I went back to the nursery where I got the first one, and lo and behold, there was one left that had been tucked away somewhere the last time that I visited. It's kind of got a funky shape, but I think with patience and staking it'll look just as good as the other one. I did notice on both plants that almost every tip has an inflo ... and some of the inflos even have inflos: I've never seen that before!! rcantor - We have only been in this house for a year, so the fruit trees are all inherited. We have a meyer lemon, satsuma mandarin, some other kind of mandarin orange, the fig tree (don't know what kind of figs, but they're so good), a small banana tree, and a pink grapefruit tree. No Clue - To plant or not to plant - that is the question! LOL! I have two other plumeria planted in the raised bed, a Cal Sally and a Guillot's Sunset. The Cal Sal had a really difficult time over the winter, getting black tip or just tip die-back from some cold nights that we had before I covered them both with frost cloths. It's just now waking up. Everyone who was portable went into a greenhouse. I also had to explain to my husband that I didn't want to plant many of my plumeria because I wouldn't want to leave them behind if we moved! freak - that's a good tip about Lowes. I always check the plumeria there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they put a DSP in a different area. I'll keep an eye out!
