Jungle Jack's Premium White

Thanks to Mike sharing the news that Southwood Nursery in Tulsa has Jungle Jack's Plumerias I went yesterday and picked up a 'California Sunset' and small 'Premium White'. I understand that you don't know what you're getting with a 'Premium White'. Of course I'm hoping it will turn out to be 'Scentsation' since I love fragrance. ;)

I've read on this forum to look for 'FW' on the trunk meaning fragrant white.

The writing on ours looks like 'KW'.

Anyone know what that might mean?

I've also looked at photos of 'Scentsation' and the leaves look wider than my plant but maybe mine will grow larger as the plant grows? Fingers crossed.

It was hard decision between the 'Premium White' and their 'Mini-white' since the 'Mini-white'is labeled as having a strong scent.

Being a newbie with Plumerias I went home and repotted them into terracotta pots not knowing that the growing medium was mostly perlite so the root balls pretty much collapsed as I took them out of their plastic pots. :(

I'm hoping I won't lose any inflorescences and the plants won't go into shock.

When I bought my "premium white" from southwood it turned out to be a 'scentsational' so you may get lucky. Now that i think of it, there was something ?W on the trunk. Ill look tonight and see if it is still there.
The ones I just got and the ones last year were not rooted all that well so for me I leave them in the nursery pot for atleast one year. The ones I got last year I re potted this spring and they had a real strong root ball.

Yes. I know your 'Scentsation' link well. My friend Kemistry from the fragrant forum has gotten me hooked on Plumerias (I grow several fragrant plants such as Brugmansias, Jasmines, Brunfelsias, etc.).
I actually printed off your 'Premium White' pic and brought it with me to the nursery. Your leaves are much wider than the one I got so who knows? Maybe I'll feel better if yours has KW on it as well. Laugh.
Wish I had left mine in their pots but nothing I can do about that now. Hopefully the white will bloom and it will have an awesome scent whatever it turns out to be. :)

Yes Home Depot sales Plumeria from Junkle's Jack....As a matter fact I bought 3 Plumeria which are the Panittas'Red and the Hearts' Desire and the other one can't remember the names....I kept the Heart Desire Plumeria and Returned back the Panittas' Red and the other one as well both since was Grafted....Even the man at Home Depot confirmed that it was ended grafted... I prefer that the braches comes from the Original body than having two different bodies it's just doesn't look normal....The price wasn't cheap at all...The Panitta"s Red and the other Pink colors was about 2 to 3 feet tall and priced was $39.99 each and the small ones are priced for $24.99....Just be aware or check all the details of the Plumeria that you are buying from Home Depot or Lowe's that was provide by Jungles Jack because some of them are grafted and some aren't...so I decided to buy a few of my Plumerias thru Bloomingplumerias and 1-stop-aloha thru Ebay...At least I have the exact colors that I wantd since these Two are refutable sellers...By the way there was someone posted here that needed to see a photos of the "Rare Kolika Plumeria" and as matter of I have a Tree that just Blooming at the moment so if still neede I can Post a few photos of the Rare Kolika Flowers...Thank you

I've been good Mike, how are you? My plants are doing ok, i suppose. Marjorie, is still the only plumeria blooming. I expected to have something on Penang Peach by now. My brug leaves aren't liking the heat so much, but they are all still blooming. I've got a noid brug that is putting out another flush of about 20, in this heat! Yea, I didn't really see anything that wowed me at home depot, but i thought maybe someone else would. I don't have much overwintering space, so anything that i buy has to be special. I'm really tempted to try and find one of the JJ Thai Jades that Kenny had the picture of. I'm trying to resist the urge, just not very successfully.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I think perhaps with the incredible new website, he may be overloaded with orders. I have nothing bad to say about JJ's or John because my experiences have been wonderful. I always email him, not on the form on the website, regular email. He usually answers promptly unless he is traveling. I ask about certain trees, how may tips, availability and suggestions. He is answers me within a day almost always. The first time I ordered I was blown away by what I received. I was used to receiving smallish rooted cuttings, with decent roots. His were small trees with the roots filling the pots in the 5 Gallon sizes and even the 2 gallons had LOTS of roots, not just a few tiny white new roots. Now sometimes in the 1 gallon they will be fairly newly rooted but if you ask, he will tell you. I always have these shipped in pot so as to not disturb the new roots. They make the trip from CA to FL just fine. He packs his plants superbly. I recently received an order and once again was very satisfied. They didn't have as many leaves this time because I ordered early. If you order in July or August they will all be better rooted and he leaves the leaves on. A few may fall off after they arrive, but many remained even though the trip was far and it was hot. I also like that John is very patient, answers questions and always gives details as to how many tips, the shape of the tree, etc. The Safari I just got has about 10 tips. Such a pretty tree. T-Bred Tracy was a HUGE 3 tipper, big fat tips. Desert Sunrise he managed to dig around and find me a very nice 3 tip. Scentsation was only available in 2 gallon and it is on the smallish side but well rooted. He told me Tangerines Dreams were only in 1 gallons and fairly newly rooted. I could have waited and ordered that in another order, but we agreed to ship it in pot. It was fine, had a good amount of roots, new, but good. I now have it in Gritty and it is doing great. I agree that he should probably hire someone to handle his internet and phone sales, but I would miss talking to him. He has never failed to pick out gorgeous trees for me and i trust him. He also is honest. One time I wanted one, forget which one it was, and he said it would probably look nothing like that in the hot sun of the FLorida Keys, it would fade, so I passed and it was more expensive than another he suggested which I got and adore,.... Congrats on the seed pod! I would go nuts if I saw a seed pod in the store! I went to Home Depot yesterday and used the last of my gift card balance on a 2 gallon Mandalay. I couldn't find any information about this one except on JJ's own website. I decided to take a chance on it because the description states very strong sweet scent. I'm realizing that I prefer plumerias with scent versus pretty flowers without scent. This flower is suppose to be pretty too. The tag photo of Mandalay kind of reminds me of a darker version of Desert Sunrise but with less veining. I also saw a Thai Splash but I had to limit myself to 1 plant. I walked around the store and saw there was another display table with various tropical plants and I saw some plumerias on it. These were 1 gallon size and $15.98 but they were not Jungle Jacks. There were pictures of various flowers on the tag and most of them had a white flower circled. They were infested with spider mites. :( It reminds me of when I went to the Lowes in Vista. They had a great selection of JJs not often available but they were infested with thrips. Now, I always carefully inspect the tips and underside of leaves before I purchase.

I hate to say that mine does have a FW on it. I can't imagine what KW would stand for so I hope it is just poor handwriting. The leaves are a bit different though

You could actually try emailing John at Jungle Jacks and ask him. If not if your on MPG ask Gabby or Sonia as they would probably know.

Sometimes the most obvious solution doesn't come to you. ;)
I emailed JJ's and John responded quickly and gave me my answer which I thought I'd share with everyone else-

'Thanks for the inquiry. KW is actually Ken's White, which is actually an excellent plumeria. The scent is not quite as strong as Scentsational, but it is a much better bloomer. Because of this we are building up stock on it, the goal being to make it our standard white plumeria going forward. Hope that helps a little. John'

True. The scent might not be as strong as 'Scentsational' but at least I'll have more blooms to sniff! :)

For all you JJ fans, I had a friend pick up a JJ plant from Lowes in FL and it's just marked Rainbow. There are no letters on the branches to help id it. Any guess? Thanks, Peg

Thanks Jen, I'm wondering if they will all look like that or it's just a stress thing. Time will tell. She also picked up a divine for me. Bad part, they will most likely be all done blooming when I get there in Nov. I'll be happy with pics for now. Peg

That looks like California Sunset to me but then Jenny kind of looks like that also.

I would go with Jenny but of course colors change with heat and all.
You could always email Jungle Jack's. That's what I did. He quickly gave me an answer. :)
