Sweet autumn clematis.. too much of a good thing?

I had one come up as a hitchhiker in a load of mulch. I thought it might be a passiflora when I first found it. I carefully transplanted it so it wouldn't get run over.

It just bloomed and it a sweet autumn clematis. It's nice!

The trouble is, I see huge patches of it along the roadside fence rows on my way to work, climbing up to the tops of trees and covering fences, masses of it. In the areas where I see it, it seems to be taking over.

I don't see it too much in my area.. yet! Should I kill it now before it gets loose? I mean, 10 miles away that horse is already out of the barn. So it isn't like I'd be protecting the ecosystem or anything. One plant won't make any difference one way or the other in the big picture I suppose.

What is your experience with the stuff? Love it or hate it?
