I just bought a 3 gallon washingtonia robusta on ebay for $7.50!! Just thought I'd pass the message on how cheap they are.

K-Mart has 3 gal.washingtonia's 9.99 3 gal sago's 9.99 and Chinese fans for 24.99 about 7 gal size , also got a windmill for 9.99

I noticed that too,I just snagged one,I am noticing(after I pull them up!) that some of my palms that are not growing are actually dead,as in dead roots but still have a green leaf on them!Its amazing how long a palm can appear to be alive when its not,anyway using this deal on e-bay to replace one of my duds,good luck with yours

I made the below post on the Fruits forum in relation to acidification of water for blueberries. I thought I would repeat it here, as it could just as easily be used as a less expensive mode of fertilizer injection, or pH + fert mix injection. The injector is attached to my hose bib by a 5 ft hose, and a 1 gallon milk jug acts as my reservoir of dilute acid (for now, a more permanent and secure 5 gal bucket is in the works). Then, and 50 ft hose and a standard shower wand is attached as my distribution device. Just be aware, that changing the settings on a sprayer, or adding a second hose will add backpressure, and change the mix. It still works, but will need adjustment to maintain the same ratio. ____________________________________________________ I spent more than my budgeted amount on plants this year, so the addition of a fancy injector for acidification of water for lowering the pH of my irrigation water as out of the question. With almost 30 blueberry bushes, and living in a very dry climate (both low humidity, and very little rain), watering via buckets or watering cans, each treated to adjust pH was also not a viable option. My solution is a venturi device to pull acidified water into a stream of water and then distributed via a hose. Here is the second attempt to build a satisfactorily working injector. The first attempt was to use a ½ inch injector bought off ebay. Unfortunately, the smallest injector I could find on ebay required a flow rate that could not be delivered through a hose and hose end sprayer. Already on order was the Mazzei 283 in the picture above. Although still ½ inch threads, the injector is much smaller, and hence, designed to operate at much lower flows. I had to cut and mend the first attempted setup in order to fit the Mazzei, as the Mazzei was about an inch shorter. Hence the coupling next to the ball valve. This setup worked, but the ball valve left lots to be desired in the way of adjustment of the pressure differential on the two sides of the injector device. The injectors function is regulated by the amount of pressure differential between the input and the output, and the resulting flow rate. By opening the bypass ball valve, and letting pressure increase on the downstream side of the injector, less injected material is pulled into the stream at the venturi. Conversely, the injection rate can be increased by closing the valve, and increasing the pressure differential. I’m using 98% sulfuric acid, significantly diluted into a jug. This mixture, of which I’ve tried several concentration rates, ranged from 12 ml to 21 ml per gallon of water. This diluted mixture is then piped to the injector, and when a portion of this is mixed with the irrigation water, the overall resulting pH coming out the hose end is adjusted. As I said, the ability to precisely adjust the pH of the resulting water was lacking. And, if I wanted to use regular water, or less acidified water for fruit trees, or other uses, I would either have to pull off the hose and rearrange things, or open the ball valve all the way, and then readjust the pH through titration, and attempt to get the ball valve in just the right position. To address the adjustability, and add an additional bypass to simplify changeover to non-adjusted water, I built the following injector setup. Here is an exploded view of most of the parts, prior to assembly. I ended up adding a 200 mesh filter, as the secondary irrigation water here can be very dirty, and the orifice in the injector is small enough that it could get clogged. The use of a gate valve provides sufficient control, even if it still is not as precise as I would like it to be. I suppose one could use a needle valve for fine adjustments, but incorporating one wouldn't be as simple. And the additional ball valve allows me to simply open it to not inject acid, or close it to use the injection capabilities. The pH in my potting mix is a little high right now, so I’m adjusting the water coming out the end of my hose sprayer to a pH of 4.5 for the time being. After a few waterings, I’ll crack the gate valve open a little bit more (or I could add less sulfuric acid to the dilute I’m injecting), and put the pH closer to 5 or 5.5. I haven’t carefully tracked the costs of this setup, and I’ve spent extra in the various tinkering and rebuilds, but I think it is reasonable to say that one can be built for less than $50, presuming you already have tools and pvc cement. $60 if not. The injector is the most expensive part, about $30. A pvc gate valve is spendy, at about $7, which I found online, although some people say they can be found at their big box hardware stores. I suppose one could use a metal one, since it doesn’t come in direct contact with the acid, but I didn’t feel like dealing with any corrosion that could be possible. The rest can be obtained at any hardware store with a decent sprinkler component selection.

Second shipment from Carmela arrived, still no word from C&H. This time I ordered 4 x 3 compots plus one 25 plug tray. (Go to the eBay page described earlier to get the details) Total $128 less 15% comes to $109 plus $25 shipping for a total of aprox $130. I unpotted one of the compots and got 15 large seedling plants, almost the size of the plug plants plus 18 small plantlets which will go back into a new compot. Assuming the rest of the compots will yield 30 plants each, we are talking of a potential of 360 compot plants 1/2 of which are 1 year behind the rest and 25 plug plants which are 1 year ahead of the larger compot plants. Thats a best case scenario of 385 plants blooming spread over a 3 year period for $130. That's about 30 cents a plant, realistically 40 cents as some are runts and may not make it. I like this better than the flasking scene. The plants are well established with roots and acclimatised to the real world at the same or better price than flask plants which would be 1 year behind, besides being so delicate. As Borat would say "Great success" if for no other reason that this will keep me busy for quite a while potting up and caring for all these plants. Hi greenheaven. I bought it from a seller on ebay.uk, "Rootgrow" I think it was called. Only one store here sells this stuff and it it is too expensive for me. The stuff from UK was cheap even with postage and packing. If I have understood it correctly it is only used once in the soil when planting. The microorganism exist naturally in the environment and will eventually establish on the plants by itself, but in can take up to five years in the average garden. If they are added the symbiosis is there from the start. Once they are established they will stay there for as long as the plant lives. Another thing I have read is that mycorrhizal fungi is only one of several beneficial soil microorganisms; types of bacteria, tricoderma fungi and all the living things that exists in good compost and manure makes the soil and garden healthy. The compost type of microorganisms can with advantage be added a couple of times a year. The exception is chicken manure that needs to be composted thorough, preferably hot compost. It is suspected to promote blackspot and other diseases if not.

I I know that you can get 3 7 or 15 gallon palms at this website http://buyplants.webs.com/apps/webstore/. but it depends what you looking for. Since you are in zone 5. I think your best bet of a palm that grows big is a windmillpalm. They sell 7 gallon windmill palms 39.99. I think thats a good price because thats about how much I paid for my pindo palms I bought last spring (not online). In zone 5 you would probably have to heat your palm for the winter. I have been seeing Washingtonias turning up in a local supermarket chain. Previously, these palms were almost never available locally (although more "exotic" species were). They were so cheap, I bought one, then another. I thought they were filiferas and my other Washingtonia are all robusta. Going to experiment this year with an in-the-ground Washingtonia.

I just got my $7.00 Robusta yesterday and yes I bought it on Ebay from CFT Nursery! It is 3ft tall from the base of the trunk to the tallest frond. What a deal!!! I have also purchased a Trachy similar in size from them which is also a beautiful palm. They are definitely my new favorite place to buy palms online.

Yes, got it from CFT Nursery. So it looks like I'm gonna get a great plant! It'll probably ship Monday and be here sometime next week I guess. I'm planting it in the backyard.

I have been seeing these palms for $7.00 and $7.50(also 3 gallon Butia for $15.00) for some time and resisted "dragging" another plant home. Now I had to order one, Ihope your happy now! LOL

I bought a 3 gallon triple trunked christmas palm from them over the weekend for $9.00. I should get it tommorrow. THey said it would be 30 inches or taller. I cant wait.

I got my andondia today. To my surprise it is a 5 trunk christmas palm. It has a few bug marks and has a few brown spots and was trimmed a little bit but I think it was a steal 5 plants for $9.00!!! cftnursery is a good place to buy palms!! Here's a few pics. BTW is the slight yellowing anyting to be concerned about or is it just shipping shock? The picture makes it look worse than it is.

Got my three gallon "washie from cftnursury today. It arrived in great shape. It is very "hairy"! I thought only Filiferas had hair leaves? Of course I have zero experience with Washingtonias.

Nucci60 they are awesome little palms,what a bargain!I have noticed that robusta and filifera have threads,I think the easiest way to tell is trunk size,but that will be a while.I actually think that these palms have grown next to each other for so long that it is getting harder to find pure robustas or filiferas,(you certainly can in habitat)but thats fine with me I like the mixture!I think with robustas growth rate and filiferas cold hardiness we get the best of both!!!!! WXMAN81,I have 3 this year I will be experimenting with-the smallest I will use a leaf inclosure at least double the length and width of the plant and a cover on top to keep totally dry,this is only for the first winter to see how it works,I will be using this method on several other varieties of palms as well.The other 2 washys I will use "burlap"rope lights and house insulation and plastic wrap as I described in detail to you in the other thread,I believe the first thread you posted with pics of your washy,sago and dwarf bananas

lol here those suckers run for 3-5 bucks :P they aren't special in fact u can walk around the neighborhood grab some seeds and make your own business out of it....hahaha thats what i did :P got alll kinds of palms and cycads growing...cycads i purchased at chumleycycads.com very nice plants there if u order email him your order that way u can talk to him direct and can tell u more about what u are buying :D but whatever u buy there its all good :D nice,big, and affordable plants :D

Wxman81,here are the 3 washys I will try to overwinter.I would have liked to get larger palms but it may work out better this way,the smallest one I will try a leaf pile,the larger ones I will use rope lights.I had some larger ones in there but they were not growing so I replaced them,Washy 2 has put out 4 leaves allready but they have repeatedly been destroyed by high winds this spring-Washy 1
