I eat in Guymon a lot. It matters of what kind of Mexican food you like. My favorite place in this region is in Hooker. In Guymon the place across from Marla's on 54 just west of the intersection with main is good. Don't let the outside fool you. Many like Acapulco on east 54 across from Standard Supply. I didn't eat in there for over five years after 4 of my family including me got food poisoning in there. But ate there in December and it was good. You must of ate at LaRissa's just south of Braums. Not one I eat at normally. There are several more places that serve Mexican food some I have ate at and some I haven't. I know several eat it at the J&J truck stop cafe but I have never tried it there. Many eat Mexican food at Marla's. I do like there green chili chicken fry. And if you want to try another kind of food let me know. I have ate at about all of the places around Guymon. There is a little cafe on the north side of the street in Hardesty called Big D's. The lady came from eastern OK and the food is good and plenty of it. On the odd Saturdays they have all you can eat catfish and on the even Saturday all you can eat calf fries.

Too bad your foot kept you from hiking. But I understand. Yes we look a lot better here now. Things are growing including the weeds. i spent all afternoon mowing and then spraying the back acre for weeds and goat heads. I have really cut down on the goat heads, weeds and grass burrs since I bought this place. Has been a long fight. But getting them thinned out and grass started. It stayed cloudy and only hit 86 today instead of the 95 they predicted. Was sure nice. Sprinkled a little all morning. Didn't never get anything very wet but kept it cool.

Next time just post and let me know what you want to eat and I'll give you some more options. Jay

Jay - not only are you a WEALTH of information on peppers but now you're adding "tour-guide" to your resume! Although I'm centrally located...I'm tempted to take a trip just on your descriptions! My work partner is from Mooreland just outside of Woodward and has entertained me with many stories of the land and good eats! I'm kind of a tree-hugger since I like hills & forests but you guys really make traveling west appealing! I'll keep it in mind...espcially since the once I went to CO I absolutely LOVED it!

I love good food. Guess that is why I have 20 plus pounds that needs to go. LOL. I love it all really. Country cooking and mexican food are some of the best. So I know where several of the places around here are. I haven't kept up with places in Boise City and Clayton like I used too. Sure there is at least one good place in Boise City. My favorite mexican food places are in Hugoton,KS and Hooker,OK. There are several others that serve good food but those are at the top. Then there are several great eating places for country food in the small towns. And Guymon has some other good places to eat. I cook and grill quite a bit. Then my number one place to eat is my sisters. Then I'm in Guymon shopping more than anywhere else so eat there frequently. If any of you go I can list several names to check out. Naifeh's steak house is a nice reasonable place. Like I said some of the best food and hospitality is found in places where you wonder if you should go in. Jay

My foot did pretty well in Colorado, but I didn't want to press the issue by hiking Black Mesa befroe we even got to Colorado. Maybe next time.

Saw lots of large grasshoppers in the road between the border and Guymon. It made me want to go fishing. The Mooreland/Woodward/Fort Supply area was the least appealing to the eye of the trip. You can sure tell they have missed the rain.

I saw the radar loop for yesterday and now I know why the wind was from the north then the south once we got to Guymon (and temp went up 30 degrees).

The restaurant talk is making me hungry. Time for lunch!

Didn't realize they hadn't received the rains we had. Knew that Enid finally got some rain not sure how much a few weeks ago. Till then they had been dry. Wish we could all get some for a change. And then to look at the drought maps Dawn posts and see how dry they are in south Texas. The weather has sure been different lately.

We have a few grasshoppers around but not in the huge numbers knock on wood that I've seen before.

As long as you had a good time is what matters. And don't think Black Mesa is leaving. It will be there when you come back.

Heard on the Lamar, CO radio where a young 2 y/o cat wondered into town I believe and might of been killed but not sure last week. The radio was cutting out a little. Also didn't catch where. I'm sure you heard it also. Jay

About that Texas drought.....it is my understanding that parts of Texas received 8-13" of rain last week although I don't know if any of that rain fell in the dry areas. I hope some of it did. I guess we'll know on Thursday when they update the Drought Monitor map. It's hard to believe that in 2006, it was parts of OK that were in the D-4 "Exceptional Drought" category. I feel bad for the Texans, but am glad we're not in the same boat they're in.

Poor cat. I'm going to have to Google and found the news story about that one.

The San Saba to Lampassas area got a ton of rain one day last week, but I think the areas further south are the ones hurting the most.

You can find the Colorado Wildlife Department's mountain lion summaries somewhere on the web. It shows the exact location of every lion killed by hunters. One was taken right by the Oklahoma border and a few others in the same mountain range, so together with the one killed by the Oklahoma game warden and the ones killed by Oklahoma ranchers, there is definitely a healthy but small population there. A higher percent are taken on private lands than public, and the season closes when the total kill reaches the limit, so areas with mostly public lands surrounding them are more likely to not have enough harvested to keep up with the expanding population.
