Rapidly Yellowing Zucchini Leaves - Help!! (Pics Included)
Comments (6)Jessica, seems as if you may have squash vine borer. Just lost a watermellon to one. A very colorful fly lays an egg at the base of the stem, the larvae then bores in, and the plant begins to die. Check the base of the root for an enterance hole which should be surrounded by the maggot's excretement. You can try to slit the stem open and remove the maggot, or as I did, salvage part of the plant by attemting to re-root a new section by covering some of the stem with dirt. KEEP IT MOIST When it takes the distal part of the plant will once again turn green. BTW, careful with the Sevin: you could be killing the honeybees which you need to polinate the flowers of your Zuke....See MoreWhite powder on zucchini and yellow squash leaves?
Comments (16)No matter what you do or don't do, PM is something that shows up each and every year on your squash and cucumber plants in late summer. Its pretty much just a fact of gardening. Treat or don't treat, depends on if you've had your fill of zukes yet or not (by September I most definitely have lol). I usually just let it go at this point in the year. Course here we can expect snow in 2 weeks anyways and that will kill off any squash plants regardless....See Moremoro blood orange w/ yellow spots on leaves
Comments (7)Thanks for the insight! The nursery told me yesterday that they (foolishly, according to the person answering the phone) sprayed the trees with insecticidal soap or some such during a hot/dry spell and scarred the leaves. It is supposed to bounce back. I may try a foliage chelate spray next week to help it out a little, in case it is a deficiency. THANKS, Rick, for the link re: deficiences - it turned out very helpful for my older lemon and lime. Toni - regarding Cedar chips, it was recommended by Four Winds Nursery at their website. Plus, we're building a house and I had a huge bag of cedar chips and shavings available. I also layered rocks across the bottom of the container to prevent water buildup. If things start to look TOO wet - like the soil is not drying out - I will repot with a sand/perlite, soil, cedar mixture. Thanks again!...See MorePICS: Limp and yellow leaves and dried up flowers
Comments (3)I water mine mabey every other day and thats because it's in the mid 90's and they get full sun and ,,they are in containers that get hot. on the hottest days I may water them daily only on the hottest dryest days if they start to get droopy from the heat.it hasn't rained it over 2 weeks here. tomatoes don't like lots of water..they like consistant moisture in the soil. I probe the soil down an inch or 2 ,,if it's moist I don't water. this has always worked pretty well for me....See Morebotanybob
