We have a trachycarpus fortunei growing in our backyard. Last winter I protected it in a styrofoam box. It came out just fine in the spring - in fact, it had put out about three new fronds. They were "unfolded" at the time, I figured that over a couple weeks they would completely unfold.
Well, now it is three months later, and these three fronds have not unfolded at all. There has been absolutely no change in them. They are a nice green color. Also, since then new fronds have grown, and they have unfolded themselves just as I would have expected.
Any ideas on why these fronds that grew over the winter would not unfold?
I tried manually prying the fronds apart. I could do it on one of them, but the other two it feels as if I would rip the frond if I were to force it apart.
What should I do with them? Ignore them? Cut them off?
Thanks in advance for any help.
