Need your thoughts on these seedlings and what may be wrong

Alright so most of my seedlings are doing quite well. However I want to weigh in on what you all think may be the issue on a few of these guys.

A few of them the cotyledons have turned a couple of different colors (varying by different varieties.) One type as you can see they are yellowing. Now they haven't been underwatered, and I don't think I've overwatered them really. Think it may be time to move them out of the regular seed starting mix and move them into a better growing media like my miracle grow potting soil? I want to almost venture it's maybe a nitrogen deficiency but want others' input.

The other however, is more of a dark color? Kind of hard to describe, and it's not on the bottom of the leaves however. In all reality it's time to get them into bigger pots I think. Most of these seedlings have had 24/7 light with the exception of last night where I had them under a slightly weaker light, but they were starting beforehand.

Most of all of these seedlings look healthy otherwise, and their true leaves are a healthy color. But as always it's nice to get secondary opinions.

Seedling grapes are not guaranteed to be self pollinating. They are really not guaranteed to have any specific predictable character. If this one produces any quality fruit at all, someone got very lucky. Furthermore some varieties of quite a number of species are only partially self pollinating, with a much better fruit set if another pollinator is available. If you continue to get only partial clusters that may be the case. It is probably too early to tell. You may need a few more years of growth to know for sure. To get quality fruit at all out of a seedling is pretty lucky. This plant may well be worth saving; most seedlings aren't, since most parentages are complex hybirds, that resort unpredictably. But it may also need a pollinator and will almost certainly need proper pruning to produce the best flowering. It takes years of evaluations before most fruit varieties of any kind normally even get named and most of those don't even get released. It sounds like you are starting to get good fruit now and that normally improves as the vines mature. I would say that all your first signs are very encouraging.

Steve - from your link, I found this page which has to be just about the most informative webpage I think anyone has ever created regarding growing tomatoes. I searched high and low for something like this the past couple of years and came up emptyhanded. Very good stuff! If all else fails, I have another four of each variety tomato that've sprouted down in the basement as of ~10 days ago, so no huge loss...but I really wanted to definitively know what caused this so I could prevent in the future. Sounds like the MooNure alone (for repotting) was a poor idea from the getgo. May've made one or two other mistakes along the way as well. Thanks y'all. If anyone else has any commentary or thoughts, please do share. Three years later and I'm still a newb at this.

Generally ones in the flats look a bit "leggy" that can be caused by too much heat for the available light during the day and too warm at night. Notice the seedlings on the lower shelf, (in the jiffy things) how they are skinny and leaning... Also I see drops of water on the tomato plants, try bottom watering. I see you have a rubbermaid container in there. The lids are great for bottom watering. Pinch off the dead and dying leaves from the tomatoes, when you transplant them plant them so deep that the dirt is just below the good leaves. The stem grows roots that way, gives you a really good tomato plant. Try putting an oscilating fan on the shelf below your cordless drill. Seedlings grow with thicker, stronger stems if they are wind blown.

I can relieve your mind on one count: fluorescent lights touching my seedlings have never caused a problem. I use regular cool fluorescents. [I gather that if I ever actually try to grow tomatoes in winter in the basement for fruit (it's fairly warm) I'll need to replace some of the cool tubes with grow-lights.] Too much water seems likely, but I'm not an expert. You want to bottom-water, but don't leave the plants sitting in a tray of water after they've soaked some up.

Your seedling look great! At this point I would carefully separate them and transplant them into larger containers. After a week or so give them a small amount of fertilizer. Somehow they seem to know they are confined and don't grow as much; once you transplant them into a container they will grow faster.

I'll probably put them in my miracle-gro potting soil. My habaneros seemed to have took to it quite well. But I was about to start putting them into a little bigger container, but noticed them doing this a little. Suppose I should get them moved over in the next day or two!

Yes, they look good. I would also suggest transplanting them soon. The darkening is mostly on the seed leaves and very many of my seedlings are doing the same thing. In fact, I have several plants with the darkening on all their leaves but it is pretty normal. I think it has to do with the artificial lights.

Here is a photo of my Giant Ghost, Butch-T and Carolina Reaper. They all show the darkening leaves but they are growing quite well for super hots.

Hey nice to hear that Bruce. Those are some nice looking plants though!

But yes, I'm going to move them over tomorrow, hope my super hots turn out looking as well as yours are at the moment.

to me it looks like u could slack off on the watering just a bit. and back the light to 18 hrs,do you have a fan running, this really helps

You are overthinking this.

Leave the plants alone and read a book.

Repot them when they get too large.

Not over-thinking anything, when certain plants look quite different than the others I do like to find out what others' thoughts are on the matter.

And I don't want to read a book. Lol

That and this is kind of a fun hobby!

Certainly never hurts to ask questions. I do it all the time and have learned tons off this list by doing so. The questions as you state don't have to be 911 type questions, but also simply questions born out of curiosity.

In defense to the book reference, there are many times when people posting questions are certainly in the 911 mode and we some times try to calm them down and keep them from doing something too drastic.

Maybe a book on Pepper Growing would be a good middle ground? :)
