Magnolia and mold?

I recently moved to a new home and am learning what plants are what, and how to take car of them! :)

I have what I think is a Magnolia, and I noticed today for the first time that it now seems to be covered in white spots that look like they may be mold along the stems/wood. The bush itself seems just fine..leaves are green and showing no signs of visible stress. Here are a couple pix:

Is this mold? Or a pest problem? Or maybe even normal?? lol I'm new to gardening and the plants at my new place, so any advice would help! I did notice there seems to be a lot of wasps and hornets that go into the bush throughout the day. We are also experiencing a pretty big drought up where we are. So it isn't getting much in the way of water..and yet it seems like the area is too moist. We have had a lot of heat and high humidity..

Thanks in advance for everyones advice :)
