I Need a Pumice Fix!

Only one nursery in my small town carries pumice, and I have cleaned them out. The manager will order more on Tuesday and it will arrive on Thursday. My relatives will be in line with me to buy pumice in order to repot their plumeria. I am already having fantasies about making periodic purchases and hoarding the stuff.

I did a bit of research on "play sand" and decided it isnÂt an acceptable substitute. I read a bit on the bonsai forum and saw people were discussing whether or not various grades of pool sand were acceptable soil amendments. The problem is the different sands were local products or pool supply stores had a "one grade fits all" sand that may not work well for horticulture. I could use perlite if it was a dire emergency, but I prefer an amendment that makes the pot heavy. For future reference, what heavy materials do you use to improve soil drainage?
