moving outdoors issues?

i brought my plummie out of the house (winter dormant) about 1 month ago. i ammended the soil, did half strength fertilizer and left it in bright shade for about 3 weeks. the top two leaves began to appear and seemed healthy. last week i sat it into full morning/half afternoon sun and i began to see a lot of new leaf tips (they look like horns to me) some of the 'horns' look black tipped to me while others are that deep glossy green. what could be causing this? is it something i should be worried about? the plant is in claypot and gets deep watering and time to dry out well, so it's feet dont stay wet. this is my first and only plumeria so i am finding my way around best care for it. any help appreciated! jo

All is well. Pick off the black ones and enjoy the green ones. Sometimes the first leaves will go black but the next round will be green. It does not seem to bother the plant as long as the stem itself does not turn black. As Mike says, bottom heat is the key. warm soil encourages root growth which results in leaf growth. The enemy is too much water or cold. Placing your plant on concrete or rock will speed up the process. Once the leaves are 6-8 inches, your plant is off and running for the summer.

ty tdog. the stalk is quite healthy looking. previous years' stem is kind of greyish compared to this years new growth but it has been like that each year. i will pick the black leaves off. i was surprised how quickly new leaves sprouted when moved to full sun. am crossing fingers for my first blooms this year. if i dont get any, i may have to find a home for this plant with a better caregiver. lol. thanks again. jo

Kirk..yes it's possible he's having problems with those particular subs. Every other sub has been top knotch. Both have been a little problematic. Phoggie, I believe the stucco work was done midday and they didn't see the distinctly different tones. It's pretty obvious in the shade, I can't believe they intended to leave it the way they did. To be clear on the concrete floor, the issue existed from day 1 so I don't think of this as a maintenance issue. But then again, I'm new to concrete floors and ultimately I'm less concerned about that than making sure the stucco matches. Holly. You're absolutely wrong. For one, the builder chose the stucco, we bought a home in progress and made changes to the interior only. For another, it simply isn't correct to have stucco be two different tones in a distinct line half way up the house...that's ridiculous.

If it were me, and I loved the Lacanche and could get appropriate service in my new area I might order the Lacanche and use the existing range until it arrived. Okay, it's a couple of months--but not much different than a remodel and you've been there, done that so you can handle that. There are so many other things involved in a move that those 3 months will probably just fly by. I don't really have any info on the other range, but I'm sure someone on the appliance forum will chime in. Does Eurostoves carry CornuFe? If so, call Trevor and see if he has an opinion. Another option, do a google search (rather than the GW search) for past discussions on Gardenweb--it will bring up topics that have dropped off the board. I'd use something like "CornuFe Gardenweb " and see what comes up--maybe include "Yesdear", "Appliance Forum" or "Kitchen Forum" to see if discussions around that kitchen also come up. I can't imagine there not being some discussion about such a specialty item. Hope this is helpful.

Sorry to see that you are getting slammed on this issue, blue-eyed-girl, when it is clear that you are agonizing over this decision. I guess that's the price of using a public forum like this. In support, I can totally understand why you would not want to talk with your mother (some experience of my own), and why you think it might be helpful to send him to his father's house. The past is the past, hopefully he can be a good father. The fact that the two of you have a good speaking relationship bodes well. We have many of the same issues with my stepson (ODD and some ADHD), and he has started to say he wants to live with his mother.The screaming and yelling, stomping, irritability etc.. is all very familiar to me. We had a talk with his mother about having consistent rules, bedtimes, etc..and I think that helps a lot. We are working hard on this issue right now. One thing that stood out to me is that it sounds like your husband is the dominant authority in your house. If you are truly the "mushpile", then your DH has to be the heavy-handed one. I don't think it is a good thing to have a stepparent take the lead in discipline. Though my SS was older when I entered the picture, I think he would be very resentful of me if I was doing the heavy discipline all the time. Best wishes and hoping that things will work out for the best, just remember, (and express!) that you truly love this kid.

You should talk to an attorney. If the decree says you have to give 30 days written notice, I would interpret that to mean you can send her a notice in writing that in 30 days you are moving. Then, if she objects, she can file a motion to ask the court to stop you. If she doesn't file a motion to stop you, then you move. She hasn't objected and you work out a new visitation plan. OR Your DH can petition the court for permission first, which may put him in a better light than if she files first to stop him. If he files for permission, he is showing that he wants to do things properly and isn't trying to run off and steal the children (or move so she can't see them as much) but if she files first, she can claim that he's doing just that, which puts him on the defensive of having to prove why he is moving and that it would be best for the kids, etc. etc. GO TALK TO A LAWYER.....

Flowers are encouraged by phosphorus which is the middle number in fertilizers. When your leaves get about 6-8 inches long, give it a good organic fertilizer (I like Dr. Earth #8 which is a 4-10-7 with many extra minerals; or I like humus based Flower 'n Bloom by Gro-Power 3-12-12; or for a water soluable I like Growmore 10-52-10 which is the least harsh on the soil microbes.) Do not put the solid fertilizer within 2 inches of the stem. The water soluable you can spray all over the leaves and stem and soil. Solid fertilizers every 4-6 weeks or water soluable every 10-20 days. Stop in September so the plants harden up (you can give potash to harden) enjoy your flowers.

great info tdog. i appreciate the organic component of your post too. i used organic soil, amended w/molasses, meal and worm castings and a good layer of mulch. i will use compost tea once a month for the next 3-4 months to keep those microbes happy. last year i "fertilized" with liquified seaweed every 2 weeks and rotated with regular MG at half strength every 2 weeks. i got tremendous lush growth but no blooms. i have since heard that i was not fertilizing enough and needed MG's Bloom Booster or equivalent and used at recommended strength weekly (which seems a lot to me). does this sound about right to you? (if by solid ferts you mean something like osmocote pellets i dont ever use those type ferts.) thanks again for your input! jo
