Couldnt get anywhere with those img. But cold is most likely the problem-i dont even know how you got them to sprout-that's an amazing start.
All palm seedlings like a bit of shade also.With coconut I would go for sun with shade in the very hottest part of the day..if not a hot day,leave it in full sun. Never let go dry, It really would be worthwhile for you to make a simple,small greenhouse for them.Then you will get real growth over the summer. Coconut,Papaya,Mango..all are worth the effort and almost require it when small.

heres another pic on the same day, the colors are a little off.

How hot is it getting there and how cool at night. Probably a little sun burn. If you are in a hot spot in California (90s-100s)you could not water them enough.

That makes alot of sense. It seemed to change color's when temps were 99-104 for 5 days in a row.

They will sunburn.Mine had some burn when we hit 103 last July. Its that we are not that hot everyday that makes even a cacti burn when we go from 65-105 in a few days.Hard for any plant to acclimate to that.
Some might not agree-but put a saucer under it,so as to prevent it going too dry between waterings in summer. And some palm fertilizer could help-it looks healthy to me.

I'll throw in my 2 cents and also say that's sun burn. We've all done that...LOL

What should I do to help it not happen again? I think planting it behind a tree that blocks out the hottest part of the day. I know it will burn always when temps get hotter than 105, ( which happens alot here) but temps from 99- to maybe 101 might barely burn the leaf as it gets used to the hot dry summer?

Luckily, the worst is hehind you. The new growth will be OK, it's only the growth that was acclimated to artificial light that's toast.

Scaldude,how the barrel Coconut doing?. I saw a post of a similar grown outdoor coconut looking great in Anaheim.Looked in better shape than an in ground SOUCAL coconut.

Where did you get you coco palm? I do wonder though what variety it is. My coconut is still less green. The new leaf is way greener, but not as green as yours. Only in places it is. I do have a new frond though that may be a darker green. Right now its a single spear about 68% up from the center.

I think this one is from the Laguna Hills Home Depot on El Toro Rd. (West of I-5).

O, I got my coco not at a home depot, but it looks like it, same size, etc.

The HD one above, I picked up last year. The "barrel" one stanofh mentioned is 3 years old. I'm not sure if that one is from HD or "The Plant Stand". I've lost a few....the barrel one is a warrior.

US Marine, not that it matters, I now remember that this one was purchased at Superior Market (a local chain of Latino markets....great produce) in Santa Ana while I was grocery shopping. It was the nicer of 2 in stock, totally an impulse purchase.

Yep that coco is definindtly sun burned give it some shade.
