Bolivian Rainbow and Cayenne Health (Pics)

Hey guys/gals.

I have two questions I was hoping I could get some help with.

First, I have three cayenne plants. Two of those plants have some sort of growth on the leaves that looks like someone sprinkled sugar grains all over it. On further inspection, the grains are actually part of the leaves. I have checked all of my plants and have always checked for insects, and there are none, even with closer inspection with a magnifying glass. I don't think that overwatering is a problem, because I typically wait until the plants begin to wilt a little bit to give them water.

Here is a picture, you can kind of see what I am talking about:

I also have three Bolivian Rainbows, all with browning leaves at the edges, and the leaves look unhealthy in general, and the leaves never have pointed tips... always rounded and curled. Again, no parasites, and overwatering is not really an issue. What else could be causing this? I have checked the pH of my soil an it is spot on. Here is a pic:

The "sugar grains" are edema caused by water imbalance and should not cause any long term harm. Don't know what's going on with the others.

OK... good to know. Thanks. Anything I can do about it?

These Bolivian Rainbows are tricky. Everything else around them are flourishing.

Seems like those at Pepper Joe have not changed. I ordered a pack of red Carolina Reapers, planted all the seeds, plants germinated very quickly and plants are doing just fine. However all the peppers are yellow, do not look like reapers at all, certainly not spicey at all and I think it is just a scam. I can literarily snack on the yellow "whatever" pepper they sold me without feeling any heat. In the meantime I ordered directly from the man himself Ed Currie on https://puckerbuttpeppercompany.com and have been growing some real reapers.

Jennifer Guilin --from you--it was quite productive,thin fleshed and quite hot.I tried this last year and none germinated. Antonia P. Rhomedia-- this pepper with the unlikely name came from a non-pepper person.I first thought it might be Antohi Romanian because of similarities in name. This pepper was green rather than pale when immature and the shape was different- thick flesh ( like a bell) juicy, sweet, and tasty. Tuste Blanco-- is a Zapotec Indian pepper- C. annuum, tough skin, moderate heat,fairly productive CAP 469-AB-- was sent to me as C. praetermissum even though the seed bank lists it as capsicum species. I had two plants CAP 469-AB 2 turned out to be a C. annuum, large,bland pepper with no heat. The other plant was a praetermissum which I brought in but the aphids became too much and I chucked it before the pods ripened so no pod picks. Here are the flowers CAP 469-AB 2 CAP 469-AB 1 St Helena Is Acorn is also from you-looks like I didn't get a picture of the ripe pods-they turned yellow and then red, fairly prolific, slow building but very hot. Vikingkirkin, your list looks very similar to mine, well except for the Serrano and Cayenne, which are probably too hot for my family. I looked up that Pusztagold, and it looks very similar to the Giant Szegedi, both of which Gourmet Seed Int'l. carries. Yes, take a flower (or just a bit of pollen) and rub it against the flower of the other pepper. Try to do this right as the flower opens, in order to reduce the possibility of self-pollination or other hybridization. Then, do something to isolate the flower, such as a mesh bag, et cetera. I've even heard of growers using a drop of glue to close the petals of the flower back up. If you have the resources, you could cross-fertilize all the flowers on a branch, and then bag the entire branch. Then you would grow out seeds from multiple pods and evaluate the crosses. From these, you would select your favorite pod shapes, and then grow them out again, and so on and so forth, unto the 8th to 12th generation to increase stability. Last season I had two crosses from my Black Pearls. The cross resulted from the pollen of the Thai chiles I also grew. The plants were prolific, but not very interesting or flavorful. Josh

I would cut back my watering. Let the soil get dry to the touch between watering. Peppers need very little fertilizer so if you are fertilizing stop that also.

For which issue? Both? Should I be worried about losing or stunting the Bolivians from this issue?

I was referring to the edema problem. I don't know what's happening with the Bolivian Rainbows. When I am stumped I take a sample to my local Cooperative Extension Service for an experts opinion. They have been helpful for me in the past

With respect to your bolivians:

I had the same problem with my white habs last year (puckered
leaves). The leaves remained puckered throughout the summer. I sprayed fungicide on it, and i'm not sure it did much.

The bad news is that the leaves did not look pretty.
The good news is that it still produced hundreds of white habs. I'm thinking its not life-threatening.

I usually just lurk here in this forum and am certainly no expert. But could this be a magnesium/phosphorus deficiency? A little bone meal is what I have used for puckered leaves. Maybe someone else can chime in.
