Free tire planters, pick up in LeFlore County

As most of you know, we're getting ready for a big move so trying to pare things down a bit. I have well over 100 tire planters -- tires with the sidewalls cut out that I used for makeshift raised beds until we'd worked the dirt enough to be able to plant in it. No way am I wasting space moving tires when we're going to a place where they actually have dirt. LOL

I know...(insert sad face)....you're going to keep us posted, right? I can't wait to hear all of your new adventures! If I could have gotten there, I'd have taken you up on those planters, but DANGED those miles.

Keeping you and all of yours in my thoughts & prayers! Lordy Girfriend, I would NOT want to be moving. It's such a chore to start over, but I think your's is a blessing.

It is very lovely where we are, we are surrounded by commercial nurseries because we have such great growing conditions right where we are. We feel very, very blessed We do spend huge amounts of time outside, here. I have an entire outdoor kitchen, in fact (both of us being of Italian extraction, we must have an awesome kitchen, lol!) We are all doing well, I am recovering from a shingles outbreak, which I'm kind of young for and had not gotten the vaccine, yet. I would not wish that on my worst enemy. So, I would admonish anyone who had chicken pox as a kid, to talk to your doctor about the wisdom of getting a shingles vaccination. I'm hoping I don't end up with permanent nerve damage from that outbreak, ugh. All the family is well, and we're gearing up for our annual July 4th shindig! Jades are doing great! One is big, one is still small, and I might have a little something for you, hint, hint :-) Patty S.

I had such a blast at the swap, only sorry I didn't get to actually meet or talk with everyone! I think a few escaped that. :) I was especially glad to see the newbies and some old gardening friends. I learned that Nana and I were at our first Plant Swap like 10 years ago, it was held at the Lewisville School District Outdoor Learning Center, it was also about the same time I met Carrie, I think. I went home with less than I took, which was my goal...Still came back with more than I had planned. Pictures will be posted in the Gallery when I get my hands on them. My friend Kelly took 75 photos so I'll have to go through them and pick the best ones to post. Thank You everyone! Its you guys who make it such a good swap! OK get your goodies planted and plan your propagation for the Fall Swap.

Dawn, I suspect the mama possum found entry under our house and had her litter there. We probably just weren't paying attention to how much the cats were eating. (We have a tendency to just fill the bowl, not knowing exactly when one or the other is filling it. ) Amy, the closest my husband was releasing the possums was 5 miles away and that was crossing a highway, so I don't think they were finding their way back. (I asked after the third one, because we do have a creek about a half mile from the house.) To be sure, he started releasing them at a creek closer to his work, which is over 30 miles from the house.) We had to cut one of the wires on the cage yesterday morning because the possum because it had its bottom jaw trapped, trying to bite its way out. It was trying to play possum, but those claws were wrapped tightly around the wires on the sides. It "woke up" immediately when we got it loose! Poor guy. I don't hate them; I just don't want them living under the house (and eating the cat's food.) lcdollar, we are almost midway between Seminole and Wewoka (closer to the latter) just off Highway 9. My grandparents lived and farmed between Earlsboro and Maud from at least 1917 to early 1929 (my dad was born in March, 1929) about a mile west of the Pott County/Seminole County line.) They moved to Stratford and sharecropped on my grandpa's uncle's (Frank Day) land there for many years before moving to town also. I've heard many stories about my aunts, uncles, and my dad picking cotton. He was well known for his "Williamson's white corn" also. If you knew any Beasleys from the Earlsboro area, they were probably related to my grandma and my great aunt Annie Taylor and her husband lived in Seminole for many years as well. Thanks, Paula. This move is turning out to be.... trying.

By the way, as mentioned in another thread, our final pull-out has been delayed due to the $&(#$% rain. (It didn't rain when I needed it but now that I need it to not rain? Sheesh.) So tires are still here for pick up for a few days --

And anyone needing free CRW tomato cages? Come and get 'em! After hubby crammed the two moving trailers full of his c.r.a.p., I have no room left to take my cages. There are 100 or more, I can't even remember right now.

Area people are already driving by (with trailers ready to load) intermittently to see if we've left yet so they can come strip the place of what remains. I'd rather see a gardener get the cages than a thief scrounging for scrap yard goods.

The rain is having its last laugh with you, isn't it? I guess the rain decided to torture y'all one more time before you head for presumably greener pastures.

Our rain has gotten much heavier the last hour and the wind took out power poles, and our power, around 9:30 a.m.

So, here it is, the rain you wanted all summer long......and at the worse possible time for your move.

Oh Diane, I hope you aren't delayed too long.

They just issued a flood watch for our county and we have had very little rain at our house. Today we have just been getting a light mist since about noon. From the looks of radar it will continue for hours with maybe some heavier stuff later in the day.

At least, the peppers and okra should like it.

Sigh.

The rain has not let up at all. I've been out in it all day loading metal into the trailers and I think I'm working on a nice case of trench foot. LOL I've just given up for the day, showered the mud off, and come in for the night.

I tell ya, I'm just about to take on a new hobby of heavy drinking to escape reality. ;-)

HANG IN THERE, DIANE!!! Just think, in just a few short weeks you'll be surrounded by kids who still need lessons, boxes that still need unpacked and no idea what to do about either of those!! LOL!

Maybe you should scope out the nearest liquor store to your new home so you always have a chilled glass of wine at the end of the day?! Vino might have medicinal powers for trenchfoot too....
