Happy 1st day of summer!

Best spring I can ever remember here,since May 22 we have been averaging 66-86 and after yesterday

and today's rain we are approaching 20" since May 10 also a streak of 80+ days since May 22-needless

to say the plants are growing like never before!

With some temps near 100 in the forecast this coming week....

this is a big departure from the last few years!

I have this odd feeling that late fall and winter are going to be something historic (cold that is).

Enjoy it!

Spots of NE have seen almost 15 inches of rain just this month.

Pretty dry here. And average temps too. But overall a pretty mild spring and the plants are loving it! Forecast has days in the mid to upper 80s and a good amount of 90s too.

Cyn - I just remembered to come look for your photo - love the touch with Daffodils!! We still have a little snow, where the big banks were, but it is dirty and almost gone - now it is allergy season!! Yea. I have done a little bit of cleanup in our new yard. Dear god, how much crap the last people left under the snow!! Kids small toys everywhere and garbage and recyclables under the deck!! What a mess - also hundreds of cigarette butts!! We have a postage stamp-sized front yard, which I raked, as I wanted to get the crap out of the way of anything that might come up - tulips noses coming out through the ice!!! Yea. Hopefully they have enough oomph in them to bloom. Love this time of year, despite the allergies!! Nancy.

Thanks all. I have been at the daylily forum as it is daylily season and just busy with the gardens. Annie, the red rose there with HEARTS OF FIRE is LAVAGLUT a really great Floribunda that has great staying power. But then so so those Hearts of Fire as they are still not done blooming. I put them about 18 inches apart, maybe closer, when I want them to grow together like that.

Yeh I have probably over 100 potted plants this year. Im still not sure if I will let the big yuccas die, but if I do sometimes I take off the heads and root them. They root really easily. The yuccas came from Home Depot and the tall one was 30 dollars and the small one 20 something so they werent too expensive for their size. I wish I could take all my plants in, but I only have room for the more expensive ones, or the harder to find ones. The good thing about cannas and elephant ears though is they dont take up any room when you store the bulbs.

Its been cooler than average here in california, with a few normal 90f+ days here and there for my area. I sure hope everyone gets a mild winter, last winter for alot of us was cold.Good luck.

I am hearing that some sweet corn could be in as early as July 10th (about 2-3 weeks early) because we have had the "warmest spring on record". I started growing palms in 2004 and 97 is the warmest day I can remember. I am hopeing to see some 100s with lows in the high 70s. That is when these palms would really explode. we had a couple of day stretch a few years ago where it was mid 90s rained all night and only fell to about 75 and then shot back up to about 94. That morning I could see that my tall coconut's (at the time, since departed) spear shot up about 3 inches.

Happy Summer Solstice everyone!

If I was going to go by this spring/ summer here in the Mid Atlantic I would say that this winter is looking to be a very warm one in deed. Even after this terrible winter and the 3 historic blizzards we had, we had a very early spring here, and very warm. So far, june has seen about 15 days at 90F or better, which is MUCH warmer than usual for June. This trend is going to continue here for the foreseeable future too as we are not forecast to go below 90F for daytime highs for another 7-10 days. We have seen several days of UPPER 90s as well, and will see that again this week.

I think possibly the strong El Nino had alot to do with the wild winter most of the eastern US saw this past winter. That is now GONE, and now even the oceans are MUCh warmer than normal for this time of year.

Anyway, I hope we have another warm winter. =o)

How can it possibly be the summer solstice ALREADY? Didn't the ground just thaw a few weeks back?
