Sunflowers getting attacked

jennsnaturalgarden

The sunflowers in my garden are all looking a bit worse for the wear. The lower leaves are yellowing, drooping, and getting brown spots on them. A couple of them have stems that look as though they've split at the bottom, and some have something on the back of the leaves. (though not all have both). I'm attaching images of the thing on the leaves, and of the roots, where in one that died I found something that looks like a small, orange-yellow grub. What's attacking my flowers? Thanks!
