@carsoncitypalms I started out joking, but seriously, that could be done. I am supplied with propagates by New Life Nurseries in Perris. They are set up with the USDA and ship as far as Texas. They don't do Mexican fan palms because they would not believe that there is a market. But they could have 1000 sprouts to you by next season for $500 plus shipping. As for myself, I have trimmed about 15,000 palm trees in my carreer if you count trimming the same palm each year for 20 years as 20. My records are over 900 in on summer season and 132 in two days on Catalina Island. A prime selling point to the hotels and commercial properties is that if they trim between June 15 and July 15, that they won't have to deal with the seeds. It is not unusual to walk on to a hotel property that has not listened and find several hundred Mexican fan palm sprouts in the gardens that they expect the landscapers to weed out. If they wait to August, the trimmer and ground crew has to deal with 75 pounds of green seeds on each tree which explode and spread as soon as they hit the ground. Since the daily quota is 20 70-foot palms, this can be 1500 pounds of seeds. By late September, the seeds are ripe, gooey and sticky. Here is another idea. Load the family up in the car and take them to Disneyland at the end of June. Attach a trailer with potting soil and propagate trays. After going to Disneyland, go around to the hotels and offer to weed their gardens for free. Write the whole trip off as a business expense.

njoasis & earthworm, I haven't seen the one im talking about in 3 or 4yrs now.It's about a 1 hour drive from me,and I just haven't had no reason to go there.I use to work near there,that's how I saw it. earthworm, The place I saw it at was a Sony's restaurant at the time.All the Sony's restaurants around here have gone out of business,so maybe that one did to.As I was saying they had a fence around it,so nobody could get the seeds off it.I asked the manager and he said that the Southeastern Palm Society told him what it was.They put the fence up so they could get the seeds and so nobody would damage the tree also.He said they told him it was rare for one of those palms to live here with no problems. It might have been a Filibusta for all I know.I've never seen a Filifera in person.I've seen plenty of pictures of them.I've seen plenty of Robustas in person.From what I could tell it looked like a pure Filifera.The trunk was grey and the fronds were a olive green color.It didn't have any red color to it anywhere,like Robustas do.Maybe I'll take a ride there this weekend just to see if it's still there.If it is maybe I can get some seeds :) Randy

I doubt it's solely from weather. Mine has been in the ground for almost 2 months now and we've had similarly bad weather, even a few frosts since putting it in. My guess is acclimatization. Did you bring it out from the inside and set it in full blazing sun? I gradually introduce all of my plants outside over a period of about 2-3 weeks increasing sun exposure as time goes on. Otherwise, the leaves will get bleached. If this is the problem, it's temporary and the newer leaves will be fine.

I just did this too! They will abandon the nest if you don't take care of it, ASAP!! tonight if you can!. You need to do a nest change. There is good info on the sialis site about nest changes and how to do it. I got as much dried grass as I could and put it in an empty butter container. I tried to line it with pine needles, but I don't know where my female got hers?!! It took a few days, but then the second egg arrived along with a third! She was incubating a few days until a wren, I think, got two of them. Now they built another nest in my other box.. after all that work!! then you have to take care of the ants. They say grease the pole.. I put the liquid ant killer at the base on a plastic lid covered with a larger lid.. I hoped it would distract them from the nest, but I can't tell for sure if it worked since they moved.. but I didn't see any more ants in there. Good luck and keep us posted!
