Sure hope the cycle of weekly rainfail continues, last year was a good year for gardening with less than exspected rain.

Pam, A lot of us are getting rain of one kind or another--some getting a little and some getting a lot. I had mine (a quarter-inch) during the night and today's storms dropped heavier rain (0.70") a few miles west/northwest of me, but then slid west/southwest right past us and into Texas. Can't win them all. I'll link the OK Mesonet map that shows rainfall since midnight. Some areas had not had rainfall greater than 0.10" on any given day, if any atall, for about 70 days, so this rain is a huge blessing. In most of the state it will take 9 to 15" of rain to get us back out of drought, and we don't get your hurricanes which could, of course, easily erase the rain deficit with one good 'cane, so the drought recovery likely will be slow and will take months. Still, any time you are in a drought and any moisture falls from the sky, it is a great day! Even just the cooler air temperatures alone are such a huge treat, with or without rain. Merrybookwyrm, Yes, and it is a sad development too. I've been watching those sea surface temperatures for a couple of months now, seeing it coming and dreading it. I kept hoping this second La Nina wasn't really going to develop, but "wishing and hoping" didn't help any, did it? I was really hoping for something more like an El Nino event. Even a neutral ENSO pattern would have been preferable. We still have hope though. When we have back-to-back La Ninas, the second one usually brings us a little less dry weather than the first one did. That's good, and I hope it works out that way in this instance, because we sure need more moisture in the next year than we've had in the present one. Also, La Nina is a contributing factor, but not the only one, so we might not have as bad of a weather year if other factors come together in a different way. That's a slim hope though. Am I feeling really optimistic? No. But I'm going to remain hopeful for some improvement in the weather pattern until the hope gets stomped out of me by ongoing drought. I guess by this time next-year, we'll know for sure which plants really are the most drought-tolerant, anyway. I have tons of flower and herbs seeds left over that I didn't even plant this year because of the drought, and I am hoping to use them next year, weather permitting. Veggies are a mixed bag. Although I planted a lot, I didn't do the constant succession planting I normally do, so I think I have enough veggie seeds left from this year that I won't even have to buy many, if any, for next year---especially since next year doesn't sound very promising either.
